Unless anything better is presented,
Desmond accepts one of the candles and begins testing the walls and any bookcases along the walls for drafts.

"I've laid eyes on none yet, wizard," says Armando into Ulric's lamp-lit face, "but I'd wager we'll find one soon enough. We might investigate the chamber ahead to the right using the lamp, but I fear without silver we shall find ourselves unarmed against its inhabitant."

Wen has more candles and is happy to light and offer one to anyone who needs it. If he can reach the candelabra he would put at least 2 candles in it to throw more light. Once the illumination has increased he would start to search around as well, with his floating candles in tow and 1 candle in hand.
(ooc - I have 6 candles in my pack so we can run up to that limit)

The West Way
(Torban, Rufus, Gustave, Ulric, Guntram and Armando)
Gustave's sword swishes through the air near enough for Ulric to feel the displaced air bat against his nose as both he and Armando retreat to where Torben and Guntram stand ready.
Behind them, Rufus now has a torch burning.
The daunting chamber to the right is all quiet, for now.

"Your warning was very specific. Let's push forward. I can cleanse the chamber with fire if need be. Just keep any attackers away from me. Gustave, maybe you should lead?"
As he speaks Ulric keeps the lantern fixed on the area ahead and keeps watch.

"
Ah...yes", says
Gustave, clearly less than convinced of the merit of this proposal.
Nonetheless, he edges forward toward the darkness, shield held high.
"
Just be careful where you place any of your sorcerous conflagrations eh?", he whispers over his shoulder.

The Burned Library
(Josiane, Desmond/Mondes, Dorgan, Dieter and Wen)
Josiane locates a blackened chain in the corner of the room that lowers the candelabra (somewhat noisily!) so that Wen can place four burning candles in it -- leaving another eight places vacant -- before the whole of it is hoisted up again by the chain.
By this illumination, along with the candles gingerly carried by Wen and Desmond/Mondes, and the three floating flames, the full extent of the former library is visible.
It must have been magnificent! The odd-shaped chamber comprises at least four inter-connected timber-built areas that encircle and overlook another space, which can scarcely be seen in the darkness below. Each of the areas is approximately hexagonal in shape and 20-30ft wide. These are partially separated from one another by the positioning of book cases, but interconnected by short wooden stairs. The floor level of each adjoining area is some 10ft lower than the last, such that the outer areas spiral downward around the fifth area. It is a miracle the whole of it did not burn down!
The lit candelabra is in the first of these areas, and the deeper areas can scarcely be seen in the dim light. From what can be seen, the first and second areas have been completely burned out, and the third area hints at the same.
What now?
