Akbar looks Gerhard over, then unbuckles the dagger from his belt and presses it into the man's hands with a smile.

Zax appears next to Akbar, ice-pick poised to strike.
He pauses upon seeing Gerhard , appears to come to a decision, and lowers his pick with an almost regretful sigh.
"Thought I 'erd summum' say 'goblin'", he grunts. He jabs his bearded chin at Gerhard, "wossis then?",

Quick Recap of Recent Events:
Zax the Gnome, Akbar, Wetzel, and Karl are here (fighters all) as well as The Herald (a cleric).
A hobgoblin guard managed to sound a gong (loudly) just now, prior to being dispatched. Moments thereafter Gerhard has been freed from a cell; Akbar has graciously handed the man a dagger.
Zax has just squinted a look outside the cave-mouth and spied a misty, forested basin surrounding a dismal little lake. A rocky pier runs a short way out to a skull-shaped islet.
Everyone is aware that the alarm has been sounded; presumably there will be some kind of response?
What now folks?

Karl will have his bow out and an arrow knocked, hoping to get a shot off when reinforcements arrive (before the general melee).
Other than that, he has no plan.

Gerhard quickly finds his gear in an adjacent cell, which includes a dagger, so he refuses Akbar's gift.
He is, however, not happy to hear about the impending hobgoblin invasion, and suggests that the party flee to the skull-shaped islet.

For once, Wetzel speaks up boldly.
"We should head back to the chamber where we split up, and find the rest of the party."
He checks his gear, to make sure he's not forgetting anything, and nods to the newcomer.

Gerhard finds his gear dumped and forgotten in a corner of the supply room (where The Herald located the key) directly across the passage from his cell. Given his recent captivity, Gerhard is unsurprisingly keen to feel wind and the sun on his face again, and councils exiting into the valley. Wetzel, councils the exact opposite; a return into the deeper warrens...
Zax thinks the islet on the lake might just about be large enough for all present to cling to--just about. On the other hand, the forest beyond the lake could be a good hide-out, or at least make good ground for guerrilla fighting...
