Seeing Dorgan atop the stairway, Josiane starts to climb after him, motioning to Percy and Mads to follow.
She has that purposeful look about her again...

Having not had the time to properly case the joint, Dorgan will wait patiently for his newfound friends to arrive. He will look at the door handle, the lock, and the general construction of the door, and try to determine his likelihood of success should he put his shoulder to it in an attempt to gain entry.
When the rest of the group arrives, he will ask, "So, are we knockin' on the door or are we..." and here he looks meaningfully at his axe, "knockin' on the door?"

Josiane looks expectantly at her companions.
"Do any of us have the ability to open this door without forcing it?"

All things being equal, Drogan (strength 14) has a 3 in 6 chance of forcing stuck doors. With his axe, he can most certainly break it down.
Mads also has sorcerous means of dealing with the door, if needs be, but it won't be discrete.

"All things considered, I think your sturdy shoulder, Master Dwarf, is our best recourse," says
Josiane; "That will cause the least damage and be the easiest to offer recompense for should our suspicions prove groundless."
She sets her white shield upon her arm and places her sword hand on the hilt of her fair blade.
"Make you ready."

Dorgan will stick his axe under his belt but keep his shield at the ready. He looks back at the others.
"No killin'... 'less they try en kill us first."
With that, the dwarf will turn around, take a step or two away from the door, his body tensing... and then, with a sheepish grin, he'll walk back up to the door and try the handle. If it's unlocked, he'll push it in.
If not, back a couple steps and then shoulder to the door with all his might!
OOC: Do I know what the thieves who took my coinpurse look like? Were they Men, children, or Goblins?

Josiane nods emphatically, tenses... relaxes with an exhalation and a roll of the eyes at the anti-climax, then tenses again...

Dorgan tries the door handle, but as it will hardly budge in his firm grip, he is obliged to test the portal with firmer measure. He backs up the few paves that the tiny timber landing will allow, and then gives the door a solid shove...

...to no avail. The door is made of stout stuff indeed. Probably a wise precaution given the prevalence of thieves and trespassers!

Dorgan doesn't know for
certain, but before he started doubting himself, he was convinced they were Goblins. No taller than a Dwarf, they were, in any case. He supposes it might be possible they were in fact younglings of Men... it's hard to be sure now.
