"Right you are!" Olaf says and then heads for the north west stairs at a fast walk. He will raise the scepter and bring it alight again before descending into the dark. He will also have his sword at the ready.

Olaf is looking for the others, and will follow any trail they left behind, and will call out to them if he sees light, or sign of the other party.

"Everyone else stay outside the kitchen door, we do not want to split up into more groups. Two is too much!", shouts Wibert. He smiles as he get back to his tasks and thinks up a menu to prepare for the sick and hungry, mmm..., chicken soup, bread.

Now for that chest.

Meanwhile, Wibert examines the crude, timber chest. The flat lid sits loose over the top of it, and peeking into the inch wide gap under it, Wibert doesn't spy any mischief. He holds his breath and flips the lid, which opens easily. Inside Wibert sees the last remnants of a store of firewood.

He has strong Andaros haul the chest out the way, and then Highbough sets about organising kindling and wood enough for a fire in the hearth...

Gustave and Desmond linger feebly in the mess-hall, sitting down among the filthy pews and benches.

Wibert examines the trapdoor for traps that may go off if you open it. If possible he will tie a rope to it (tie it to an iron spike if need be) and pull from a distance to be safe.

The trap door appears un-tampered with. The two halves of the door open to the left and right, so there is no simple way to pull it open with a rope from in front. Wibert kicks one of the hatches open defensively, and nothing untoward happens... so emboldened by this success he opens the other half of the hatch. Again it opens safely.

A narrow wooden stair leading down into the cellar is revealed. It is all dark below...

Meanwhile, Highbough casts aside the grubby pot over the fire grate, and sets about igniting a tiny flame using his tinderbox, and then feeds it with kindling from the crate and gets the beginnings of a decent fire building in the hearth...

Highbough will boil his meager supply of sage and birch bark and use a blanket to make a "head tent" over the steaming tisane.
