But thankfully the stone stairs have not moved.

The pair tread grimly past several bodies in the passage... best not even glance at those... and then ahead they spy more clearly an ante-chamber from where dark passages go left and right to unexplored places. Ahead there are two stone stairs, one ascending up to the Ogres' den, and one descending to greater depths...

Olaf leads on, climbing the narrow, dank stair.

Ahead there is the foul stench of bodies, and as the pair struggle to the summit of the climb with their loads, the see all about the the remains of numerous assorted bodies. Dozens of rats scatter as they arrive, scurrying along the walls and slipping under the door into the Ogre lair. The bodies (including Caine's and Anwyn's) are already decomposing with the fetid attention of the dungeon cleaning crew -- oozes, centipedes, rats and other vermin...

From the top of the stair, there is a double door right ahead, which leads into the Ogres' lair were the party once over-nighted. Left, a dark passage leads to Deggerhund's dungeon. Right, is an unexplored passageway.

Victor looks around nervously...

What now?

Olaf says grimly, "This is about as far as we got. The Ogres laired through there." he nods toward the double doors. Are they open or closed?

"They had a dungeon over that way and there was a passage out of it that we didn't explore." Olaf continues quietly, "We didn't get a chance to explore to the right."

"I think we should move to the right and look for stairs going up." Olaf continues, "Carefully, but quickly."

The doors to the Ogre lair appear closed... wait, one of them hanging just ajar.

"Right," grunts Victor, and spits.

It is not easy to go quietly or quickly when encumbered, but the pair turn to the passage to their right none-the-less...

...the passage goes for 50 or so feet, and then turns left. Directly ahead is a closed door.

TGM: I'm not positive about the directions here. If it is 50', door and left turn then ...

Olaf whispers, "I'm not for opening doors unless we have to. What we need to find are stairs going up."

With that he will move carefully down the passage looking for traps in the walls, floor and ceiling as he goes. Olaf will pause near the corner and listen...if he hears nothing, he will cautiously peer around the corner holding the scepter out to provide light down the passage to the left.

TGM: OTOH if it is 50', turn left, then door ...

Olaf whispers, "We need to find stairs going up. I guess we will have to try to open this door."

Olaf will listen at the door. If all is quiet, he will try the handle/knob if see if it is unlocked. If it is, he will open the door and shine his light inside.

If the passage is clear, he will lead Victor around the corner and then continue up the corridor. Olaf will continue to be cautious, looking for traps in all directions.

There is no sounds to be heard, and the walls, ceiling and floor appear as ordinary, if old, works of their kind. Olaf judges the way forward safe enough, and proceeds.

Ahead, he spies a long, straight passage that vanishes into the darkness. At the limit of his perception, another passage branches away to the right forming a T intersection.

"Let's move down to the intersection and shine the light in both directions before proceeding." Olaf whispers to Victor and then moves forward, carefully and cautiously.
