However, the idol, scepter, and ring might be worth having "identified" before we just sell them. A sage, mage or cleric, might be very interested in any/all/none of them leading to, not necessarily more cash, but perhaps a patron.
Nothing I write here in the OOC thread has actually happened in game. I was just trying to help you guys sort stuff into possible shares. Any items that you don't want sold, you can substitute for the like amount of silver in any of the possible shares. I think Danhem was also of half a mind to keep the crimson eye stone instead of 125 sp (a good notion for minimising the load to be lugged about, perhaps).

Eris, did you see that both the scepter and the ring have been identified by Tor in the (010) Preparations thread?
Saw that *after* I posted. Both of those artifacts are worth a lot of cash, but would be *very* useful to us as we adventure. I'm against selling either now.

What Olaf wants is enough cash to upgrade his AC a bit (get a helm at least), resupply his rations and arrows, and then get back to the exploring. What I (the player) want is enough XP to get Olaf up to 2nd level to increase his XP.

It also might be wise for the *party* to hire a few henchmen as guards and porters with some of the cash and see about opening an account with the Trader's Guild where we can "bank" our surplus cash and other valuables.

I suppose we could draw straws to see who gets the ring and scepter. Whoever gets them would be out of the running for the next magical do-dad we find.

With the cash each of us has from the split waysoftheearth suggested, the fighters should be able to get medium or even heavy armor if they want it. We should definitely hit the Jolly Noose to find some mercenaries.

Remember that we're using house ruled prices...

Chainmail (medium mail) is 98sp, field plate (medium plate) is 330sp. Scalemail (heavy mail) is 250sp, and full plate (heavy plate) is 780sp.

See the Price of Good thread for other prices.

I've already been browsing the prices "at the store."

Olaf has leathers and a shield, but with no helm as the one he picked up from Sir Rodrick was returned to the Temple. He's shopping list includes a helmet and an upgrade in armor to, at least, chainmail. Doing that should improve his AC by a couple of points, right?

I wouldn't be opposed to checking out some other location on that map we have.

Before we leave, though, I think we should nose around town (whoever has better Cha than Olaf) and find out about more about that the blockade we attacked on the road. From the story that came to town, it appears it was a "tax" (ie extortion) checkpoint that had some level of legal support here in Ket. I think we should seek out the merchant we bought that map from and have a chat about "local politics", what can we get away with and what is going to bring the "law" down on us.

Olaf is Neutral, not Good, but he has no desire to end up swinging from the gallows. He'll more or less try to stay inside the letter of the law when he can. Well, as long as the probable downside of being caught breaking the law is greater than the upside of gain riches and glory coming from breaking said laws exists, he will. Olaf's charisma isn't great, so he's probably not the best person to be fishing for information and trying to cultivate a patron, but none of you other folks appear to be interested, so he'll have a go at it.

The Temple of Thuul and its high priest would make excellent allies and patrons, I think. Let's see if Tor can give us some guidance and maybe suggest a "mission."

Call me cynical, but looting ruins and killing monsters...in the name of a church...is a whole lot closer to legal than just looting ruins and killing monsters because that's where the gold and glory lie. Probably a bit safer, too.

Nicely done Eris. Maybe we can get a squad of Thuulian knights to watch our backs while we plunder?

Anyone want to voice an opinion on the two magical items? The ring should probably go to a thief, the scepter to a templar or magic user (someone not on the front line of fighting).

So what do Ulric and Flewellen need to actively research a spell? You previously said 2d6 gp per day with a minimum of 4 days of work. How much for the two of us working together?

It all depends on the fall of the dice. With two of you working in tandem I will roll two dice and use the more favourable result for each period.

Ideally you want the minimum roll that will yield success, for each die result is a number of elapsed days of research. Success is determined according to the chance in 6 due to your intelligence.
