Exploring as we go sounds like a decent plan.

Head east from room 1, or head south and check the corridor near room 2?

After listening at the door, you open it onto a simple 20 x 30 room, 30' high, and the extra 10' in width to the right. There is a door on the east wall at the very top of the room. The room itself is swept clean, except there is a gold dinner plate lying on the floor in the exact centre of the room

OOC: Not suspicious at all! That other door likely leads to "Tim & Co", of whom my recollection is dim but I believe he is a wizard who sells potions and scrolls???

Maloof's fingers itch, but he manages to resist the urge to rush towards the centre of the room. He instead carefully examines the area for traps.

"Maybe we can throw something small onto the plate, to see what happens from afar?" Aldbane says. If no one objects, after Maloof is done checking the immediate area, he'll make a few attempts at throwing a gold coin onto the plate from the doorway.

The few time a gold coin hits the plate, it bounces off. If he keeps trying, he could probably get one to stay eventually (sort of like those games you play at a fair)

If nothing happens when the coin hits the plate, Aldbane will stop.
