Re: The Eighth Adventure

If we are not going to risk a charge up hill  then we should pull back out of range/sight

Re: The Eighth Adventure

OOC: Great question! Delving Deeper v5 rules-as-written strongly imply that 'indirect fire' is a unique property of arrows (not spears, javelins, throwing hammers, xvart darts, or even crossbow bolts), but do not explicitly mention slings one way or the other. I'm going to reach deep into hobbet history, all the way back to original Chainmail rules: "Hobbits (sic) can fire a stone as far as an archer shoots." My ruling is yes: if a human with a bow and arrow could make the shot, so can a hobbet hero with a sling. If you lobbed a rock over a fence and hit me, it would hurt!

The second question is whether the ceiling is too low. I seem to remember we had a scene a few Adventures ago where Carc flew around this chamber, so I would rule yes: if the ceiling is high enough for a bird to stretch its wings, it's high enough for a hobbet to make an arcing trick shot.

By the way I should mention, I chatted with @scottenkainen about Beppo's character arc. He gave his seal of approval to how I've been NPCing Beppo. Scott loves that kind of role playing challenge and is probably scheming how recruit the NPC hirelings into his fantasy thieves guild, when he returns to our game.

Re: The Eighth Adventure

And if an arched shot wouldn't work, a ricochet shot might.

Throw a stone hard enough, bounce it in toward them, and if they're in a confined space, they'll be in a world of hurt. It's be like the opposite of having cover; the stone would bounce around until it hit something...

Re: The Eighth Adventure

I think a Sling Stone of Bouncing sounds like an awesome magical item for hobbets.

Sling Stone of Bouncing
Look and act as normal sling stones when thrown or slung by anyone other than a hobbet. But when thrown or slung by a hobbet, they receive a +4 To Hit opponents that are not in direct line of sight (but approximate location is known). The bonus only extends to the ability to hit the opponent, not to the sling stone damage. Sling Stones of Bouncing are usually found in a small leather pouch with an upside down "V" branded on it. Most pouches contain 1D4+3 stones. Any hobbet worth his or her mettle will immediately know what these stones are upon examination.

Re: The Eighth Adventure

Willie is willing to try a volley of arcing shots, but if these are not very effective let's following Beppo and the hirelings north and get them out of whatever trouble they are in.

OOC: I love all these looney-tune ideas! Not only will I allow it, I think I will make a new Surprise check. Maybe the xvarts think they are safely out of range and don't see it coming. Let's roll some dice...
