OOC: Great question! Delving Deeper v5 rules-as-written strongly imply that 'indirect fire' is a unique property of arrows (not spears, javelins, throwing hammers, xvart darts, or even crossbow bolts), but do not explicitly mention slings one way or the other. I'm going to reach deep into hobbet history, all the way back to original Chainmail rules: "Hobbits (sic) can fire a stone as far as an archer shoots." My ruling is yes: if a human with a bow and arrow could make the shot, so can a hobbet hero with a sling. If you lobbed a rock over a fence and hit me, it would hurt!
The second question is whether the ceiling is too low. I seem to remember we had a scene a few Adventures ago where Carc flew around this chamber, so I would rule yes: if the ceiling is high enough for a bird to stretch its wings, it's high enough for a hobbet to make an arcing trick shot.
By the way I should mention, I chatted with @scottenkainen about Beppo's character arc. He gave his seal of approval to how I've been NPCing Beppo. Scott loves that kind of role playing challenge and is probably scheming how recruit the NPC hirelings into his fantasy thieves guild, when he returns to our game.
