Dougal ends up exchanging much of his loose coin, which results in the following:
1,000gp white diamond
1,000gp emerald
1,000gp sapphire
500gp ruby
177gp
8sp

He restocks on large sacks (and suggests everyone else do the same, especially since they are free) and lamp oil, then waits for the others in the main lobby of the inn.

OOC: Welcome back @acodispo! I will beg the other players' patience but I've been waiting for this NPC encounter...

Sometimes a weird mood comes upon young Willibald Whitfoot. This was one of those times, and he disappeared for much of the day after the Club's most recent return from the dungeon.

But eventually he returns from wherever he wandered off to, cleans himself up (he's quite filthy still from mucking around belowground), and seems refreshed. He's eager to catch up on all the news about town. He seems unbothered by any changes in the town or its inhabitants.

He'll take a room at the Inn (whichever is available), and makes a note to himself to talk to the Dentist in future (he scrawls it on his palm with chalk, a questionable choice), and he makes sure to change his funds into portables (gems, a couple of rings, and a gilded monocle on a silver chain [no glass]) but right now he is ready and eager to join the next expedition!
The Dentist is having tea with Ursa and Frederick, so Willie meets up with him organically on his way to the Dungeon. He notices Willie's fashionable new monocle and strikes up a coversation: "If I may be bold, sir, nothing says, 'I've got the world by the tail,' like a dapper set of teeth. Please, take my business card and make an appointment at your earliest convenience. My teeth are made from only natural organic ingredients, like free range beaver and moose. Or if you happen to slay any unusual creatures in your travels, perhaps a fine set of dungeon teeth!"

His business card reads: Dr. Toby Rabbitz, DMD. 'Our teeth are made out of teeth'

Beppo had been amusing himself during the day by looking for the two village guards who had harassed him days ago, then paraded around openly in front of them because he could. At night, he practiced scaling the side of the inn and avoiding getting caught doing it.

But now he was ready to go adventuring. The itch was back, and only fighting monsters would scratch it!

Beppo is treated respectfully by the humans during his sojourn in Hornpipe. Even though the encounter with the snowball-throwers was only, what, yesterday? it seems like a distant dream.

OOC: The "everybody hates hobbets" bug is hopefully fixed in Hornpipe 2.0. :)

Whilst practicing his wall-climbing, Beppo slips and lands in the snow on his tookus! The human innkeeper Mike sees this happen, remarks, "Open!" and helps Beppo to his feet.

OOC: Beppo fails his climb check with a roll of 1d6=1.

Willie takes the business card delightedly and makes a mental note that he needs to buy his own set of business cards.

"Well, Mr. Dr. Rabbitth, sthir, it's a pleasure to meet you! I'm Wilibald Whitfoot, and I'll thirtainly be calling upon you sthoon!"

Willie's lisp is particularly noticeable today, and although he's gotten used to it he can't help thinking how much fancier he'd sound with new teeth.

He approaches the dungeon with gusto, hoping to find something interesting to make a new set of teeth out of.

Beppo walked with a bit of a limp and a sore rump all the next day. He berated himself for not accounting for how slick the snow-covered roof would be.

Two pints of beer later, he wasn't feeling so hard on himself anymore. One more pint, and he was feeling brave enough to go fight monsters!

Into the Dungeon!

The NPC newcomers Ginger, Douglas, and Fiona volunteer to slot themselves into the marching order wherever the party needs them. They are well stocked and have brought their own lanterns and oil. If they took position as the party's three light sources, it would allow all PCs to have both hands free. What are your thoughts on that?

The party members descend the ladder and wriggle through the tight-squeeze until they reach the giant puffball chamber (Room 2). The druids immediately notice a shift in the dungeon ambiance since their last visit: It's hard to explain to the non-druids presumably reading this, but the "pulse" of the cavern has changed. The songs of the cave-crickets are in a different key, and the glowing motes of light that used to dance in the air are absent.

Our heroes regroup and shine their lanterns in all directions. They can see that the puffball grove is no longer thriving; many of the giant puffballs are missing large chunks or have been torn apart entirely!

Carc the raven is quiet but seems to shiver anxiously on his master's shoulder.

Noting that the newcomers all have light sources, Willie carefully stores Lantern III away in case he needs it later.

He takes a look at the nearest semi-intact puffball. What has caused the missing chunks? is it rot? or has something been nibbling?

Kiplyn looks around worried...."Something's not right down here, and so close to the entrance. Best be careful."

Robur quite curious about the puff ball, and considers its properties for mead making. He waves his hand carefully towards his nose to waft the odors of one that has been torn apart and inhales carefully. Then he winces, and realizes something's not right. "This is no garden anymore!" declares Robur suddenly realizing the sombre atmosphere. "This is certainly not a place for mead making. What in the hollows happened here?"
