Re: The Eighth Adventure

OOC: So far it's looking unanimous for the party to stand their ground and attack by sling. Bilfur has a good idea with the Faerie Fire spell; it will give the party a bonus to their missile attacks. I will be generous and rule that everyone delays their sling shots until after Bilfur's spell takes effect, so the bonus will be in effect for this round of combat. (Technically, missile fire should come before spells, but I'm willing to flip-flop the order in this case.)

Re: The Eighth Adventure

ooc And I will also add my thanks! Who know what could happen to these poor little Hobbits, if someone omnipotent (like Mushgnome) wasn't looking out for them from time to time?

Re: The Eighth Adventure

OOC: This is a pretty tense battle! I will give @coffee, @acodispo, and @scottenkainen another 24 hours to respond to the xvart threat. If not I will NPC their characters using my best judgement. Plus the 3 NPCs hirelings already under my control, that would give me a lot of power over the outcome!

Re: The Eighth Adventure

I could have sworn I had a sling for Wilbur, but I'm not seeing it now.

He'll pick up a rock from somewhere and throw that at them. (Better than nothing!)

(And if we get into melee, of course, he'll use his sword.)

Re: The Eighth Adventure

Willie slips his hammer into his belt, and pulls out his sling. He's pretty confident a team of Hobbets can take these guys in a missile exchange. (In agreement with plan #2)

OOC: Welcome back @acodispo! Update coming today I promise. Yesterday I had some funny IT shenanigans; I will tell that story in the off topic thread.

Re: The Eighth Adventure

Round 2

Adrenaline kicks in, and our heroes adroitly sidestep the hail of falling xvart darts!

Bilfur's Faerie Fire spell takes effect, illuminating the xvarts in a cheerful glow and making them easier to hit. Additionally, the hobbet slings are a mechanically superior weapon to the darts, so that the party is attacking at Short range to the xvarts Medium range.

Dame Simonetta, Noh, Dougal, and Willie aim true and each kill their targets. There are 4 dead xvarts, and 8 left in the fight.

Douglas cries out in fear, "We got lucky this time. Let's get out of here!"

Douglas, Fiona, Ginger, and Beppo are routed and flee to the north. It should be noted that Douglas, Fiona, and Ginger are carrying the party's light sources....
(Kiplyn is taking cover)

Xvart attack rolls: 2, 3, 6, 10, 10, 10, 12, 4, 11, 7, 10, 2
miraculously all miss!!

Party attack rolls (including +2 range bonus and +2 faerie fire):
Dame Simonetta 23 hit for 4hp kill
Robur 11 miss
Noh 23 hit for 5hp kill
Dougal 23 hit for 2hp kill
Wilbur 17 hit for 5hp kill
Willie 5 miss

Douglas, Fiona, Ginger, Beppo morale roll: 2d6=4 fail

Re: The Eighth Adventure

Bilfur grabs his torch and lights it, hopefully the fairie fire and the torch will give sufficient light
