"Are you crazy!?!" Dame Simonetta exclaims, showing uncharacteristic frustration, when she sees Noh pouring oil atop the jelly. Dungeon delving used to be so easy, how did she ever get mixed up with these troublemakers?!
The pool is only 10' wide, so I don't think you'll be able to keep the oil away from the hobbets, especially since the oil will likely flow down into the holes we've already chopped, and we won't be able to continue cutting through the flames, leaving the hobbets to suffocate while we're waiting for the fire to burn down.

It could turn to some advantage if the jelly doesn't like oil (or conversely, prefers it to hobbets), as long as no one lights it!

Oil and fire post idea was 3 days and 3 pages ago! :D
I just don't want the thing to climb out or grab anyone else; or the DM to penalize slow action. Oil is in, fire can definitely wait. If they suffocate then fire is a moot point ;) .

While the burning oil plan is being debated, Kiplyn slashes with his trusty dagger and opens up a huge wound in the gelatinous creature!
Kiplyn to-hit 1d20 = 12, hit for 1d6=6hp damage, nice!

Sorry, Beppo missed with a roll of 2. (We're still in Round 1.)

Sorry that first round was so disorganized. Normally I would wait for everyone to state clear intentions, before starting the combat. But in this case, I thought the sooner I told you Willie fell in, the better, because that might modify some of your actions. @acodispo I hope you don't think I'm picking on you. I thought Willie's plan was solid. Unfortunately he caught an unlucky break with two consecutive bad rolls (the cube's attack roll and his botched save vs. paralysis.)

FWOOOSH!

Bilfur throws the torch! The gelatinous being feels the heat and begins to rise up! It sticks together in the cylindrical shape of the well. Through its slick, translucent sides can be seen Willie and Robur's terrified faces! The rising gelatinous cylinder wears a crown of flames, like a marshmallow that got too close to the campfire.

I think that's it for Round 1; did I miss anyone? What's the plan for Round 2??
The gelatinous cylinder takes 1d6=4hp fire damage!

Kiplyn sees the fire and re-doubles his efforts. "Hold on Willie!!!"
