Re: The Sixth Adventure

Dougal will focus on the chests first and foremost as that seems the most likely place that would find anything of value. After that, he will search any skeleton bodies that have not yet been searched.
I can give additional action information once this is all done, if not all tasks have been completed.

Re: The Sixth Adventure

Dougal and Kiplyn open the first two footlockers. Looking over each other's shoulders, they can see that the contents of each are identical and packed with military precision. At the bottom of the footlocker are a spare spider-robe and some underclothes (neatly folded). Resting on top of the clothes are two items of interest: a bar and a bag. The bar looks like a big, foil-wrapped candy bar. It's about a foot long, four inches wide (tapering toward the top, in a trapezoidal profile), and two inches thick. And it's heavy! About 30 pounds. On the foil wrapper is a wax seal with the impression of a spider, encircled by words in a runic alphabet. The bag can be worn around the waist or over one shoulder (like a fanny pack or messenger bag). It is made from the same silk as the robes and embroidered with a spider sigil. Our curious burgle-hobbets peek inside the spider-satchels and find these items: 50 feet of lightweight silk rope, tinderbox, bone smoking-pipe, pouch of mystery herb (with a spider logo on the pouch).

Oh yes, and there's one more thing: Each of the folded robes has a card peeking out of the pocket. It's a laminated card, like a playing card or tarot card. On one side is the spider sigil and the words HAIL SPYDER. And on the flip side:

1st Rule: You do not talk about SPYDER CLUB.
2nd Rule: You DO NOT talk about SPYDER CLUB!!
3rd Rule: EFF the LAW!!! The Law benefits the weak at the expense of the strong (like us).
4th Rule: EFF the HUMANS!!! What have they every done for us??
5th Rule: Kill them and take their loot! Feed their livestock to the SPYDERS!
6th Rule: BIG SPYDERS can by found by delving deeper.
7th Rule: If this is your first time at SPYDER CLUB, you must DELVE DEEPER!

Kiplyn and Dougal. (Great name for a Boston law firm!) Will they continue down the line, opening each footlocker, or do they turn their attention elsewhere?

Re: The Sixth Adventure

Dougal grabs one of the bags, because it DOES look like something that might be useful to a hobbet who... might burgle...

"What do ya suppose that heavy foil-wrapped bar is? Should we open one of them?"

Either way, Dougal will examine all of the other trunks, just to confirm nothing else is there that might be of interest. He also checks all of the trunks for false bottoms

Re: The Sixth Adventure

Dougal opens each of the trunks, and finds identical contents. There are no false bottoms. If he taps the bar with his knuckles, it feels dense and metallic (like a big metal kit-kat bar segment, wrapped up nice and neat).

Kiplyn searches the remaining skeleton bodies. Each of them has the identical silver daggers and whistle bone lanyards, nothing else. He remarks that the corpses are truly in an advanced state of decrepitude, bones brittle as chalk. How long have these skeletons been down here?!?

Re: The Sixth Adventure

Meanwhile at the south end of the barracks... the skeleton situation is a tense stalemate. Dougal and Kiplyn's search is taking too long. What's the plan? Something more decisive?

Dougal unwraps a bar to see what it is.

Re: The Sixth Adventure

Aaaaahhhh! It's full of spiders! Make a Sanity check!

(Just kidding.)

The bar is made from a strange (yet familiar) metal that Dougal can't quite recognize. It's gold-ish, but not quite gold. Silver-y, but not quite silver. From certain angles, it seems to have a coppery or greenish tint. The bar is poured in an ingot shape, like bullion for long-term storage or large-scale transfer of wealth.

Quick question for Dougal, this might be an irrelevant tiny detail, but you never know: How does Dougal unwrap the bar? Does he break the wax seal and neatly open the foil, or does he tear the foil leaving the wax seal intact?

Re: The Sixth Adventure

Kiplyn goes about his searching mumbling about "What a strange bunch of folks these spyder guards are. I wonder if secret doors respond to their rules anywhere in these dungeons?". After he has gathered all the daggers and whistle he'd ask the group. "Who wants to carry some of these?"

Re: The Sixth Adventure

Dougal does not break the seal, but unwraps around it. No need to be messy about burgling...
