Re: The Fifth Adventure

Kiplyn is glad to be back in the lite and crushes some of the tunnel dust off himself. "That was a strange and twisty tunnel, but something hid something down there. So I brought it back. It's pretty odd looking not sure if you guys want to see it. But I think Dame might be able to help me read the inscription."

Re: The Fifth Adventure

Dame Simonetta says, "No thanks!" and refuses to look inside the bag.

OOC: @kipper asked me to temporarily NPC the good Dame. I rule that she would play it safe and not want to risk the SAN loss.

Kiplyn nods slowly "Yay maybe that's right. Those tentacles..so odd..." his voice drifts off. He picks up all his gear and is ready to keep going.

Re: The Fifth Adventure

Dougal and Willie also know the language of the Deep and could attempt a MYTH check to decode the writing on the stone statue's base.

Wilbur has a current MYTH score of zero, meaning that he is mentally "unsullied" and blissfully unaware of the Cthulhu Mythos, unless he deliberately "opts in" by looking at the stone idol. I made a commitment to the players a while back, there would be no involuntary SAN loss on Dungeon Level 1. The MYTH/SAN system is a totally voluntary part of the game, at least for now. Deeper dungeon levels, no such promises.

Dame Simonetta (NPC for the moment) votes to fill in another unexplored area of the map. Possibly NW of area 18?

And at the moment, I'm fine with that!

Black Dougal offers to examine the statue to see if he can translate the writing.

Re: The Fifth Adventure

Kiplyn would look around to find a spot that was somewhat hidden from view where the sack could be opened without exposing the unwilling party memebers to the gloryious strange statue. "Mind you don't touch it, I'm not really sure about this thing."

Re: The Fifth Adventure

Dougal recognizes the writing on the pedestal as the language of Olde Innsmouth Towne. He reads the inscription as easily as if it were written in his mother tongue:
  Code:
Iä! Iä! Cthulhu fhtagn! Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah-nagl fhtagn!
Which translates to:
  Code:
Hail! Hail! Cthulhu slumbering! In his house at R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming!
Dougal SAN check 1d6=2. This is equal to (or less than) his current MYTH of 2, so he takes no SAN loss.

Next he makes an investigative Lore check. On a roll of 1-5, he will understand from 20-100% of the text. If he rolls 6, then he understands too much and risks another SAN check.

Dougal MYTH check 1d6 = 5, the 'best' possible lore roll. He understands 100% of the text, with no additional SAN check. Nice rolling! Dougal unlocked all the clues, while taking zero out of a possible SAN loss of 2.

If/when I open up this game to other player-character races, I might just make that a unique Hobbet racial trait: Only Hobbets can have a zero MYTH score.

Re: The Fifth Adventure

"Well I don't know where this house is but let's maybe not go there" Kiplyn carefully covers the statue backup and puts it away.
