Re: (052) Reckoning the Abbey

Wen would hear Dorgan call out and quickly relay it down to Dieter and the others in the inner sanctum. He would then start up the stairs torch in hand to see if he can help Olaf and Dorgan. He would leave his staff by the stairs and rummage out another torch to light. "Olaf take a torch and see if the beast can be burned."

Torben

Torben squints and begins swatting the acrid air away from his face. 'We need to contain this or neutralize the treat.' He looks around for any suitable materials. 'We can buy new boots, but we can't replace you. Don't let that stuff touch you.'

| Doubtful, but is there any movable loose stone in the area? |

"There's a puddle of acid outside and it's getting bigger. We may wanna get everyone outta here before it stops us from going topside. Wen, go warn the others, if'n ya don't mind."
Olaf pours water from his water skin on Dorgan's boots trying to wash the acid off, "Dorgan, I've heard tell of monstrous creatures that look like puddles. They creep along the floor of dark places and secrete acid to dissolve their prey. There are other types that are big blocks that fill up a tunnel from side to side and top to bottom that are even worse. I think we might have run into something of the sort here."

"I don't know how you could kill one of these, so best to try avoiding, I think." he adds, "If it has the door blocked, then we might have the dickens of a time getting out of here." Olaf adds.

"Worth a try!" Olaf says, and he will hold a lighted torch down to the creeping puddle to see what happens when it feels the heat of the flame. Olaf will take care to stay out of the puddle, though!

Re: (052) Reckoning the Abbey

The Infirmary

Dorgan leaps backs as the hard soles and leather of his boots dissolve before his very eyes! He has to scamper backward on his haunches as the encroaching puddle seems to gain volume and creep toward him... With his boots hissing and steaming violently, he realises his feet will be next, and has to slash the bootlaces with his dagger in order to kick them free before his toes are eaten alive. The puddle quickly subsumes the abandoned footwear as it continues to swell into the room. It now occupies more than a 10ft radius space in front of the door; there's no way past it...

Wen hastens into the inner infirmary, and heads down the narrow stair toward the reliquary... | does he want to yell down to those below? Or run down there to pass on the news in person? |

Torben scans the surrounding room quickly; there are no obviously loose flagstone in the floor, though he could likely ply one up with a crowbar and some effort. There are bookshelves and an examination bench here, all wooden furnitures.

Oalf prepares to douse Dorgan's feet with his water skin, but realises there is no immediate need (other than to clean the pungent dwarf-feet. Phew!)

The others wonder, momentarily, at Olaf's reference to Dickens before dismissing it from their minds -- they have more immediate problems!

OOC: Yell... Wen was trying to stay in shouting distance of each group for just such a occurrence.

Dorgan doesn't have a torch of his own so he'll look for another to use to curb the strange creature's appetite for footwear. If Olaf has the only torch available, Dorgan will look for something flammable he can wield and light off Olaf's torch.

"Well?" Mondes asks Josiane impatiently, "Wadsit say?"

Desmond starts looking around nervously, then adds, "Let's pack up what we have and get out of here..."

Gustave nods solemnly at the obvious wisdom that two heads can provide. He hoists his pack (now containing a bowl) over his shoulder, checks his sword, and scratches at some stubble, pondering the still stunned form of Josiane.

"Our multi-lobed comrade speaks truly, my dear, we have dawdled here too long."

He glances once again around the chamber, "We have, I think, done all we can here, little though it may be. Lets finish this task and be gone."

Dieter glances once again around the room for threats, but seeing none he races for the stairs to help deal with the acid creature.
