Re: (080) Where a Hobbet Goes

"I propose a strategem contingent on the strength of their force," replies Dopey, "Should we prove to possess superior fighting capability, we must exercise it in an immediate and decisive attack; should we find that the odds are against us, I advocate a prudent withdrawal to a choke point where we may fight them with superior numbers."

Freid frowns, "We won't know how many until they come charging through. We can attack from the side and maybe get behind them if they charge through at you, but we have to decide immediately, because they will be back sooner than later."

"I say stay and fight here where we might have a tactical advantage, but be prepared to withdraw."

"The dwarf is our only advantage at the moment. I do not know how long this enchantment will hold, we should use it while we have it." Faengol says.

Faengol, a liability in combat, will follow the directions of the company.
(My apologies Ways, I will specify what I am doing in the future.)

Re: (080) Where a Hobbet Goes

Leudigar takes the initiative and leaps toward the passage as he whisks out his crossbow. He rounds the bend just in time to see the bugbear snatching the only torch off the wall--some 60ft or so down a mildly curving tunnel--and fires as the hairy beast suffocates the torch flame in a huge mitt. His quarrel vanishes into the dark, as does the goblin.

Leudigar is sure he caught a glimpse--before the torchlight died--of half a dozen ugly goblin faces peering around a round-ish door edge as the bugbear ducked his head to step inside. More hobgoblins, he thinks. Then in the dark he hears a thump as the door is slammed shut.
The ref considers whether Leudigar can prepare his crossbow while moving and then fire all in one turn...

CM says: "If Crossbowmen, Archers and Longbowmen are moved up to one-half of their normal movement (excluding charging) they may fire once; and if they are moved over one-half of their normal movement they may fire once only if they beat their opponent's die roll". Leudigar has a handy light-crossbow, but must move about 4" to fire down the passage. 4" is which is over half of his 6" move.

So he can move and fire, albeit at a penalty. Leudigar d20-1 → 4, so misses.

There is no melee segment, so that is the end of the second combat turn.

Orders for next turn?

Dopey tries the weight of his body against the giant lever.

Re: (080) Where a Hobbet Goes

Dopey stretches his arms to try the lever; it moves back and forth rather freely without seeming to do anything. Meanwhile, the remainder of the group sense time is a-passing with no apparent reaction from the hobgoblins...

"Don't look like they are coming back, so why don't we go try to find the rest of the party?" Freid says, "Didn't they go chasing down that other corridor?"

Leudigar nods in agreement.

"We've been separated from the others for too long. Let's take this opportunity to regroup with them and make sure all are accounted for and safe."

If nobody disagrees, he quickly moves back to the room with the tree in it. He waits there for the others to catch up before heading down the hallway where the rest of the party went.

Freid heads back with the others, but keeps a close eye on the rear just in case the monsters follow.
