The company's demands go unheeded, and trust is in serious short supply hereabouts; our heroes press their newly gained numerical advantage.
They cut down the last hobgoblin before he can ever riposte, but the fighting-Men are a harder breed who deal out a deadly punishment from their fighting withdrawal. Boggs, Menno, and Leudigar take hurts--and, truth be told, Menno and Leudigar are saved only by their armor! Menno's helm is dashed off and Leudigar's shield is cleaved through!
"That'll learn yer!" grunts Thick-Neck the Myrmidon grimly...
The ref wonders whether the players' luck can hold out? Perhaps fortunately he only has time to resolve one round tonight...
The Herald, Menno, and Wetzel specifically target the hobgoblin. Leudigar with target Thick-Neck.
Boggs, Alfwin, Karl, and Gunt will attack any foe.
The odds are now 8:4 in the company's favor, a famous reversal!
Initiative is diced for the second combat turn: 2 # d6 → [6, 3], so players 6, non-players 3. The players have taken the initiative!
PLAYERS' FIRST ROUND
Herald vs hobgoblin 1 # d20 → [2] miss.
Menno, Wetzel vs hobgoblin 1 # d20 + 1 → [4, 18] one hit, 1 # d6 → [4].
Leudigar vs Thick-Neck 2 # d20 - 2 → [12, 8] miss.
Bogs, Alfwin 2 # d20 → [17, 15]
Targetting (Thick-Neck, right-hand, left-hand, hobgoblin) 3 # d4 → [2, 3], so Boggs hits the right-hand man, one miss. 1 # d6 → [4].
Karl, Gunt 2 # d20 + 1 → [6, 4], two misses.
The ref dices for hobgoblin's hp: 1 # d6 + 1 → [2] and for the right-hand Man's hp: 1 # d6 + 2 → [7]. So the hobgoblin falls, but the right-hand man is only wounded.
NON-PLAYERS' FIRST ROUND
The three Men fight grimly on; what choice have they?!
Two fighters 2 # d20 + 1 → [21, 20] ouch.
Thick-Neck has a fighting capability of three Men: 3 # d20 → [7, 15, 16].
Who is targetted by these five attacks (H, M, W, L, b, A, K, g) 5 # d8 → [5, 2, 5, 4, 4] so
21 and 7 vs Boggs (AC6 helm), one hit.
20 vs Menno (AC5 helm), one hit.
15 and 16 vs Leudigar (AC4 sh+helm), two hits.
Damage rolls are 4 # d6 → [3, 6, 3, 5]
Boggs takes 3 hp hit.
Menno takes a head hit which would slay him outright, but instead his helm is dashed off (ablating d6 - 1 → 5 hp damage, saving throw d20 → 9 failed) and is ruined. He takes 1 hp damage (total 4 hp taken from two hits).
Leudigar takes two hits for 8 hp which would slay him, but for his shield! He takes the first 3 hp hit. His sheild then ablates the second, fatal, hit and is ruined. Leudigar has suffered 3 hp damage, and his AC is reduced to 6.
