| Officially, "weapons" (including arrows) make a saving throw on a d20 roll of 10+, so that's a very generous 55% chance of any arrow being recoverable. If you want to delay to search for them, I will roll individually for each of the five spent arrows. |
Ashtad will look for her arrows (as they may well save our lives later and she doesn't want to run out).

"Dead men don't need coins but I do", mutters Ashtad. Ashtad will pocket the coins from the sack as she is low on cash.

This will take some time. Say, 5-20 minutes; 1d4=2 so 10 minutes. The last arrow is difficult to find among the grass and rocks.

Saving throws are rolled 5d20=18,9,2,15,9 so two of the five arrows are re-usable. Three are ruined.

Ten minutes behind the others already, there's no reason why Ashtad shouldn't shoulder the smelly, 40 lb sack of coins. It's bulkier than her backpack (which only holds up to 30lb of gear), and will be a sore burden to her.

| A very quick skim over Ahstad's sheet shows me she's already carrying: leather armour+sheild+helm=30lb. Longbow, quiver+arrows, spear=15lb. 12 torches=10lb. Rations+water=10lb. So that's 65lb already; anything over 100lb would slow her to 9" movement. |

Re: (064) Rustics & Heretics

Meanwhile...

Helmut has trudged purposefully onward toward the abbey, tailed by Valorn and the gaggle of nervous camp followers. It lies about a mile from the bridge, in a mostly downhill direction. The going is relatively easy, considering the rocky terrain, and even being moderately cautious it takes less than an hour to approach to within a near vicinity.

Approaching from a trail that run past, and over, the abbey our company arrive at the rear, where they spy an overgrown apple orchard that plays right up to the walls. The rear wall seems damaged, but is still a formidable obstacle. However, there is no reason why the company couldn't skirt the perimeter and reach the front gate...

What next?

"Bah, where is the woman?" curses Helmut, observing that, having finally reached their goal, one of their number has gone astray after only just demonstrating her worth.

Ah well, even a child could find their way here from the bridge he muses.

"Let us not waste more time", he says, turning his attention to Valorn and the tattered mob of followers, "We have reached a place of solace. You are travel weary but the Sisters should see us restored with food and rest - but I warn you. Respect well everything you see here - this is a House of Thuul - or you will have me to answer to".

"Come", he says as he moves on towards the gates, noting with a growing discomfort the damage to the wall as he strides past...

"Only two arrows", sighs Ashtad, "I will need to remember to buy more when I get back to town".

Ashtad not wishing to be burdened takes only some of the coins that will fit into the backpack up to 10 lb if possible. Then scoots off to catch up with the others.

Very well; Ashtad delays further to stuff 10lb of mixed coin (mostly copper, and some silver) into her pack... it's not often one finds such a trove lying about! Truth to tell, Ashtad has never before found a sack of coin lying about; it doesn't happen.

Meanwhile, Helmut strides around the perimeter wall with his entourage, and reaches the abbey's front gate. It's a stout, reinforced wooden door that's quite naturally closed.

All seems quite from within...

Suspicions somewhat raised by the damaged wall, Helmut keeps a wary eye out for anything untoward as he pulls on the chord to ring the summoning bell.

Re: (064) Rustics & Heretics

The doleful little bell issues its hollow chime... but after a very reasonable wait, it seems that no answer is forthcoming. At least not within a polite time frame.

The wind blows across the hills, and the gaggle begin to fidget and get even more nervous. They are worried by the signs of battle, and all too eager to obtain the sanctuary of secure walls.

"Let us pray for admittance!" declare the elder-woman among them, and the group babbles its general ascent to this notion.

"A good idea", says Helmut with a final glance at the silent doors, "You pray."

Turning to Valorn he says, "Dwarf, you're with me", and heads slowly back to the damaged wall, this time taking a more careful look around for evidnece of foul play,
