Observations 2010-2018

A place to remark upon how it happened, and how to do good work in the PBP format going forward.

Re: Observations 2010-2018

The encounter with the giant was one of the tensest, "oh ****!" gaming moments I can remember (in a good way).

I also enjoyed the ratcheting up of tension as the snorks took control of the city and safe refuge became harder to find.

I thought the Rat Catcher class was a great concept, a fun alternative to the standard thief archetype.

Re: Observations 2010-2018

I think the fall of Ket was a really interesting twist, after getting the original party comfortable with the setting, to pull the rug out and make then really work for their safety was done very successfully. I'm sure the surviving early players still dream of re-claiming the Manse.

I'd like to go back through the posts and try to to build a map of it all. So I'll post more later as I have time.

An epic task, to be sure. I would love to somehow "pull it all together" into something publishable, just not sure exactly how. Let me know how you go...

Perhaps I was over imagining it, but I thought the purple worm pursuit in the desert world was a pretty classic D&D scenario... that jumping (hey, in the low gravity world, let's call it flying) Highbough almost snapped out of the air by two purple worms simultaneously? Only to blink away from certain death at the last instant? Entertainment.

Of course pretty much any Highbough thread was pure entertainment so. :)

Re: Observations 2010-2018

Highbough was definitely a lot of fun to play. Kudos to Simon for coming up with the Warlock class. One interesting observation I will make about Highbough is that he actually cast very few spells (relative to what I would consider a typical or average spellcaster) over the course of the adventure.

Desmond replies,"My crazy uncle Hamish always said, 'When in doubt, Desmond, turn left,' but... he was lame in one leg and tended to veer left, anyways."

Re: Observations 2010-2018

Has it really been almost 4-1/2 years since we've hand Hinterlands play?? :(

I really miss it. And Desmond. And Mondes. And WOTE. Hope you are enjoying your spring, brother.
