Re: The First Adventure

Turn 16 With a loud whooosh sound, the trail of oil is ignited! Six squares (tinted red on the map) are engulfed in flame, briefly illuminating the dungeon with a cheery glow. Our heroes find themselves at the intersection marked X. To the south, the cavern forks and branches, and the walls are rid...

Re: The First Adventure

My question to you is this: Are you going to spread some oil and then light if from the spot marked X, or would you rather lay a trail of oil as you backtrack to the east, and then light it from the eastern end? The latter seems so much safer. :) I.e. burning oil between us & the ants, not us &...

Franklin politely thanks the wizard and buys a potion of giant strength (leaving him with 95gp by my count).

Re: Out Of Character

Great discussion. I think we are all basically on the same page. :) Quick bursts of pursuit/fleeing speed are very fast compared to normal exploration, but this is more than compensated for by the exhaustion factor and the risk of getting lost. Works for me. Maybe I should have explicitly mentioned ...

Re: The First Adventure

http://i64.tinypic.com/2hx12mb.png I think this is a good plan, and it's probably going to work. Ants rely on their sense of smell, and the burning oil will obliterate their trail of pheromones. I will rule that 1 flask of oil will cover 60' of ant tracks. No particular reason for that number, but ...

Franklin speaks up and asks, "Do you have any potions for sale? Or other items that would benefit a fighter?"

Re: Out Of Character

I DM'd a game for some friends and their kids. I turned out the lights and gave flashlights to the players. If they switched off or put down their flashlights, then their PC's torches went out in the game! It turned out a fun way to keep the kids' attention from wandering.

Re: The First Adventure

1 rest turn is required after combat. 2 rest turns are required after pursuit. I'm flexible how we handle the rest turns. On the one hand, we could just skip through them as quickly as possible and get back to the action. On the other hand, the players could use the rest turns for non-strenuous exp...

Re: Out Of Character

Thanks Ways! So a bit of background, one of my goals with this game was to improve two areas of DM'ing that I've often handwaved in the past: mapping and keeping track of time/distance. Mapping has turned out to be one of my favorite parts so far, and I'm glad you appreciate it. First of all, I want...
