Re: (03) Scouting the Ruins

Meanwhile. Tass hurries to the second pile of lumber he selected earlier, aware that men are yelling and pointing at him from their roof-top vantage, and that guards are a closing in from all around. There's no time to completely empty the oil flasks, so he simply unstops them and tosses them onto ...

(04) The Cathedral

Inside, the cathedral is immediately cool, quiet, and dim compared to the bright ruckus outside...

Re: (03) Scouting the Ruins

Thanis convinces Flin that chopping at one or even several of the dozens of scaffolding pilons would have achieve nothing more than a direct confrontation, and would throw away the planned (and won!) element of surprise. The ranger waits for an opportune moment, then leads the rest of the party acr...

Re: (03) Scouting the Ruins

Tass hastily gets a flame to the first lumber pile, which ignites with a satisfying whhomp and sends a glut of oily smoke skyward. He’s razing the stores! There! There! yell men on the cathedral walls and roof, raising the general alarm. Messy, acknowledges Tass, now aware of the pounding of runnin...

Re: (03) Scouting the Ruins

Okay, so i have Tass getting the fires going and/or fleeing as necessary, half the party heading to the supply yard to see what’s happening, and the other half holding at the staging point. It shall be so.

Re: (03) Scouting the Ruins

Tass collects and shoulders the four flasks of oil offered up by his fellows, while Flin chips away stubbornly with flint and steel to put a spark into the small bundle of tinder to light the lantern. After what seems like an age he finally gets it smoldering, when Raislin leans over and points his...

Re: (03) Scouting the Ruins

It's up to you. The chances of a candle unexpectedly going out as you move around, outdoors, would have to be non-zero, unless you do something to prevent that from happening. A torch wouldn't go out so easily, but sure... might be more likely to attract attention unless you devise some kind of pre...

Re: (03) Scouting the Ruins

What about lighting a torch, lantern, or firesticks before you head off and carrying it with you? Then it will take mere moments to light each fire from the flame you already have.

Re: (03) Scouting the Ruins

How is Tass planning to start the fires?
Chipping away with flint and steel at each of four fires, one after the other... that might take a while. People would be investigating the first fire while Tass is still trying to light the second.

Re: (03) Scouting the Ruins

I'm happy to assume that a) lantern oil is a kerosene analog (i.e., inflammable), and b) the party has enough of it to get a fire going in a few of lumber piles and still have some left over for later. Let's say you'll need one flask of oil to get a lumber pile going slowly, or two flasks to really...
