Re: Multiple attacks from Chainmail.

Great post Mushgnome. I love the part about what you grew up with being the most fun (nostalgia factor!) I recall playing a lot of Warhammer in the early 1980s, which involved big fists of d6s. There were a few earlier games, but that stuck with me. I agree that the more dice you roll the more likel...

Re: Multiple attacks from Chainmail.

Big posts Talassa; thanks for sharing. In general, yes. OD&D's default combat system (a.k.a. CM's M2M/FC dichotomy) is deadlier than the d20-based alternative. I'm not sure that OD&D specifically "closes the gap" between M2M and FC, but much of what you're suggesting seems pretty c...

Email notifications

I am pretty sure I used to get email notifications from this board when there were new posts in the Hinterlands PBP, but now I can't find where that setting is controlled. Ideally, I'd like a single email from the forum on any day/week/whatever period where there are one or more posts made anywhere ...

Re: A few questions

WOTE, the way notifications work (with this forum software, anyway) is that you'll get one email when there is new stuff. But until you visit the site to reset that validation, you won't receive any more notifications for that topic, even if there are additional replies. Thanks @ehiker. I swear I h...

Is your PhD about the Hinterlands, and further playtesting is required? :D

Re: Movement in combat

Wonderful reply @acodispo!

FWIW, I have been doing a bunch more research around movement rates for V5.
I posted some of it in a blog post on movement rates, which may be of interest. See here: https://www.immersiveink.com/?p=332

Re: Welcome

I'm pretty sure the "Hobbet" spelling only appears in the (to date) work-in-progress DDV5. It mainly serves the dual purposes of 1) being as near to the original 3LBBs as it is legally possible to be, while 2) respecting the Tolkien estate. But it also appeals to me as a (small but notable...
