Perhaps Witherun would have ventured up to the top of the gatehouse that morning to watch for the returning scouts. If so, he'll begin to loose missiles down on the flying creatures from above as soon as he becomes aware of them.

Witherun hustles forward when he hears the sounds of combat. When he reaches the near gatehouse, he'll pause on the causeway to look for any unengaged missile targets on the other side. Lacking targets, he'll seek to cross the causeway and help out with melee.

Witherun strings his bow, open his quiver, shields his eyes with his hand, and peers after Thanis.

He says nothing, though he snorts & spits upon the ground meditatively.

When Thanis gives the signal he'll move up with the rest, bow in hand & with an arrow ready.
