Confronted by a band of 10 brigands, presumed trackers sent by Saxxon, the company faced them down across a long gully. Mads and Dieter went to "parley" with the leaders, Sigmund and Wulfric, as a play for time so that Andaros, Gustave, Ulric and Wibert could flank the main group of brigands in the adjacent gully.

The ruse was uncovered prematurely, and the fighting was hot. Wulfric hewed mightily about him to avenge his brother, laying low both Dieter and Olaf, while the other fighters suffered many wounds from flying missiles. Alas, mercenary fighting-Man Fix was slain by arrows, and Gustave and Ulric were incapacited. However, the company's superior numbers were ultimately the difference, and Sigmund and Wulfric, and two other brigands were slain. The other six Men fled the fighting, allowing the sorely wounded party members to lick their wounds...

A pair of Owlbears whose lair was recently bypassed tracked the company and attacked poor Thorgrim, who had been left to defend the treasure-cart and mule alone. By the time the fighting Men returned the mule was already slain, and very soon after brave Thorgrim was torn down by the monsters. The fighting was going ill, and but for the arrive of Desmond the Halfling who frightened off the Owlbears with his dog whislte, it might have gone very poorly indeed.

From here the intrepid pair scaled the limestone walls and clambered out a narrow crawlway to eventually find their way onto a tiny ledge overlooking the canyon. From there it was a short climb up the canyon wall to their freedom...

Thanks to everyone for a wonderful year of play by post! In honour of this epic milestone each member of the present company gets an XP bonus proportional to how long he has served (survived) in the company.

Dieter, Mads, Olaf, Ulric and Victor have been at it since the very beginning and each receive 350XP for this feat of survivorship (although Victor gets half since he is an NPC).
Gustave has survived 9 months, and gets 325 XP.
Andaros and Pelenwin have survived 7 months, and each get 300 XP.
Highbough has seen 6 months safely through, for 275 XP.
Nidhogg and Wibert have persisted for 5 months, and receive 250 XP.
Koch has been in game for 3 months for his 225 XP.
Desmond arrived 2 months ago and is still with us, claiming 200 XP.

Do we add our XP bonus % to this as well? I'm guessing no, but I figured I'd ask.

You are correct ProfessorP, the answer is no. XP bonus applies to awards earned in game, but not to meta-game awards.

Account of Combat
A group of a dozen hobgoblins came a knocking demanding tribute from Saxxon. Fortunately, the gate-arch was partially collapsed which kept the out -- initially. Despite Gustave's attempt at diplomacy they were determined to clear the gate and extract their silver. Ulric's brand of sorcerous diplomacy, however, turned them away burning and falling asleep as they fled. Olaf wounded the Captain with an arrow, which he kept as a memento, and fire, arrows and Dieter's sword dispatched 9 before they fled to join a larger company, including wolf riders and a fearsome Giant!
