Olaf shrugs when he finds he can't mark the wall and turns to the others, "This wall is hard. I can't make a mark on it with my sword. Perhaps one of you has some paint or ink we could mark the wall with?"

"Heading for a dungeon might lead us to exactly where Gustave is located." Olaf says, "Didn't the magic ball say he was in a nearby dungeon?" Or did I get that wrong?

"I couldn't say," Dieter says, his eyes still scanning for threats. "But I'll take any guidance I can."

"Naw, the ball said he's up in a tower somewhere, din'it, Josiane? Not a dungeon..." Desmond replies in a hushed tone, from his positioned watch of the north entrance to the room.

Oh, well!" Olaf shrugs and points down the corridor toward the Alcazar, "Then not the dungeon, maybe the fortress, that way."

"The Speculem showed a small window in a high wall leading to a cell," Josiane replies, recalling the grim vision she shared with Ulric;"And if I understand you aright, Lord Armando, yon sign could as easily mean 'mine' as 'dungeon?'"

'"But bravely done for your translation nonetheless;"
she is swift to add with her pretty smile; "Our task becomes, I think, easier."

She pauses a moment, considering.

"I think," she adds at length after a moment's deliberation with the World Invisible, "a sortie towards one of the Alcazars may bear fruit. What we need is more information. I would humbly suggest the most effective way to achieve this would be to obtain a prisoner of our own. Perhaps we might apply ourselves towards obtaining one?"

Her words are gentle, but there is a faint, warning gleam in her grey eye as she mentally draws her plans...

Desmond nods his agreement to the idea of heading to an Alcazar.

Dieter sighs.

"Everybody always wants to take a prisoner, as if it's the easiest thing in the world. Killing is always easier than taking.

"But, worse, they never have a plan for what to do next. Start thinking about what information you want from this prisoner, and how you'll actually get it. And if anyone has any favorite non-lethal methods of capturing someone, I'm all ears.

"Meanwhile," he finishes with a smile, "I'll be working on not letting them take any more of us."

After a brief council the group decides to try a right turn.

The passage therein is narrow and ill kept, if it is kept at all. Sand and rocky detritus litter the way, which is neither particularly straight nor level. Still, it continues to penetrate into the catacomb for quite some long way.

Dieter, by the eerie-glow of his enchanted sword, and Desmond/Mondes--side by side at the lead--have lost count of their strides before, some quarter hour on, they spy an ancient-looking portcullis barring the way, 30-40ft ahead. There'll be no going around it, that much is already clear...

Dieter stops and listens.

"Do you hear anything up ahead?" he murmurs.
