"We went in here." Olaf says to Victor, "There are stairs inside and if we go up we should come out in the Gatehouse on this side."waysoftheearth wrote:Olaf and Victor are here.
Olaf and Victor find themselves at the base of the ravine, scampering away from the bridge as a minor avalanche of stones thunder into the ravine behind them. And as they flee, the bridge bursts into green flames, and there is another peal of thunder as the burning bridge and another mountain of stone collapses into the ravine from the Ogre Keep side with an almighty clatter!
The pair wisely flee the scene as a huge cloud of dust and rubble buries poor Andaros and chokes the entire ravine.
Before half a minute has passed they have reached the iron door the access the dungeons beneath the Ogres' Keep...
Olaf takes out his sack and says, "Shovel half the coins in here quickly."waysoftheearth wrote:Olaf picks his way between the pale, bloating corpses that litter the valley around the back door, Victor grunting and straining behind him under the extra load of Andaros' treasure sack.
Olaf climbs the short stone stair to the entry ledge and shoulders the stout iron door in. On the third go it gives way, opening the dark dungeon passage to the adventurers. The air inside is seems thick with unpleasant smells of the dungeon...
Meanwhile Victor drags the fat sack of silver up to the ledge.
"Hold up," grunts Victor, "This thing is heavy,". Then spits over the ledge.
waysoftheearth wrote:"We're gonna need a light," observes Victor as he empties half of the silver into Olaf's sack.
(FYI -- Victor could abandon his crossbow, bolts and axe, and be unencumbered. Olaf could abandon his shortbow, quiver and helm and be unencumbered.)
"We were in here, just a couple of days ago." Olaf whispers to Victor, "We went up stone stairs then...just along here.waysoftheearth wrote:The grim, stone passage way is only 7 or 8 foot wide, just enough for one abreast. It leads directly ahead into darkness for as far as Olaf's light carries -- perhaps the sharp eyed lad can just make out a stair dimly ahead, but Victor certainly can't, and grunts as much. Then spits.
