"I sure hope Olaf and Victor and still alive, maybe they have found the kitchen for us", continues the halfling missing a good cook up.

"Let us save my torch for when the lantern runs out, but we should be back up the top were there is light when that happens or we can all turn into moles and live down here. What I would give for more oil, 'my treasure for some oil' ".

"Hey guys use the lantern to look down the well, there must somethony in there", says Wilbert.

As far as light goes, Gustave's lantern has 2 or 3 hours burn time left in it.

Wibert has but one unburned torch (1 hour).

Highbough has nine unburned small candles (half an hour each).

In all, you are not in any immediate danger of being pitched into absolute darkness...

Dieter, still hauling a massive sack of silver coins, is near the well by now with Gustave close behind him illuminating the way.

No water demon seethes from the well. Nor, in fact, does even the faintest echo of any water. It would seem that the well is dry... and very deep.

"Well I smell, but perhaps not badly enough to need to go to such lengths..." says Gustave, peering into the darkness of the well.

He lifts his eyes to the new passages, complete with ominous figurines, and shines his light in a sweeping arc "That leaves only three more choices", he finishes with facetious humour.

He moves toward the left-most opening to see if it leads up, down, or nowhere.

Pelenwin, in the van, keeps a careful ear out for anything which might come a calling upon the company from behind.

He stand resolutely just inside the door by which the company entered this place.

Dieter is at the well, with most of the others strung out between him and Pelenwin.

Gustave, casting the lantern about him in a broad sweep to illuminate the room, turns to his left after peering down the well and approaches the door ahead...

Without any warning Gustave gives an involuntary yelp!

Dieter, Wibert and Desmond (and Mondes) have sharp enough reflexes to turn quickly enough to see Gustave vanishing into the floor for an instant, and then he and his lantern vanish!

There is a but clattering echo of Gustave's receding scream, and a momentary play of the vanishing glow of the lantern upon the bottom of a rotating trap-door.

Within just a heartbeat it clicks efficiently back into place, cutting off any sound and plunging the entire room into pitch blackness!
