Sili's intention is to run all the way back to base camp unless the tactical situation changes (man down, trolls break off pursuit, etc).

The large but clumsy Trolls move at the same pace as the Dwarves, so unless circumstance dictates otherwise the Trolls will have the opportunity to attack the Dwarves' backs each round they flee.

The Elves move quicker and could escape, if desired. However, Lomeluin the Elf cannot shoot without risk of hitting the Dwarves because he is farther down the stair and shooting upward at targets behind the Dwarves. In other circumstances he would be able to move and shoot without penalty.

If you wish to read about pursuit, see Underworld & Wilderness Adventures, page 12.

Uh-oh, that's not good... we are quite a few rounds from the Gate, no?

Are the trolls pursuing single-file?

At least 4 or 5 rounds to the gate at a flat run.

The Trolls are a gaggle of thumping feet, flailing arms and snapping maws behind. At a run only one will attack per round. If you turn and stand I'll have to work out whether two can attack per round or not...

Norin's head nods up and down, but it's hard to tell if that is because he agrees with Sili or if it is just from running down stairs.

Until, that is, he shouts back in Khuzdul, "For Thror!" and turns on the next step, swinging his war hammer around for a blow at the legs of the troll behind them.
