SPLUSH.. The WaterLadder is pushed into the underground lake and the party scrambles aboard. You have poles and makeshift paddles and you gently propel the craft across the dark waters towards the distant lights. The eerie play upon the distant darkness is compelling, you must find its source.

mgt's roll comes to 4 [4 on 1d6]

The waters are still and you make good progress towards far eastern side of the waters. Your dim lights eventually show the cavern wall on the east side and you estimate you have travelled a good 200-300 feet from the beach. This cavern is very large obviously. Ahead you see an exit tunnel, water filled of course, and through the arch way the lights play.

Continue forward?

Oooh, pretty! thinks Urist. Immense caverns, underground lakes, distant faerie lights... these things are like catnip to a Dwarf. He ruffs Squishy behind the neck to reassure the dog in the unfamiliar environment.

Urist will paddle the raft enthusiastically toward the mystery lights unless anyone raises an objection. He longs to see the cavern's splendor illuminated...

Coln

"Light is good... let's go check it out."

Aurora

Looks around the dank grotto and whimpers. Coln scratches his ears.

The WaterLadder is gently poled into the north-east tunnel. The light ahead becomes clearer and the water itself is showing signs of luminescence. A slight bend in the tunnel suddenly brings the raft into full view of a wondrous sight. Ahead you see small motes of light dropping from the air into the water where they blossom into illuminated bubbles in the water. This happens several times while you approach, a mote falls, illuminates and slowly disperses.

Reactions? Questions?

"We may want to hold here until we know more about these curious motes of light," Alrik says.

He looks up. Does he notice from what these motes are dropping from?

Rhegaer the Red

Rhegaer frowns in fear and wonders aloud, "What kind of sorcery IS this?"

Urist's jaw drops in astonishment. He finds the sight incredibly beautiful and wants to paddle for a closer look.

Phadian

"Caution Urist, let us hold while we figure out this strange magic. I do not trust yet it is safe to proceed."

The WaterLadder slows it's pace a little as everyone, except Urist, stops rowing. Alrik focuses on the air above the water and as far as he can determine the motes seem to fall from a few different heights above the water but NOT from the cavern celling. Instead they seem to simply materialize from thin air and drop into the water below.

As the group takes this in they hear a high pitch whistle, like a piccolo perhaps. There may have been a few short words or it may have just been a curious signal. Whatever the noise was it was not a natural cave noise. The dropping motes of light have stopped. Slowly the the illumination in the water is dispersing. After a few minutes it will be dark once again.

Urist snaps from his daze. "I think we've lost the element of surprise," he whispers to his friends. "It's almost as though there is someone doing something invisible up there, and the sparks become visible as they fall..."
