Gustave closes his eyes for a moment to repress his headache. And then listens...

He hears his own breathing, and the intermittently gusting breeze rustles the grasses. And a distant clunk from the direction of the keep. Whatever that was, it doesn't occur again.

He squints at the bright sky and decides (int 13) by the angle of the morning sun that he must, in fact, be viewing the north wall of the gatehouse.

Gustave draws his sword, squinting at the way the faint hissing of the blade as it slides from the scabbard seems exactly the pitch to cause the most pain in his skull.

Gustave edges up to (what is presumably) the north wall of the gatehouse -- where the last of the morning mist has all but been swept off by the unsubtle breeze now.

There is definitely something (quiet) going on around the corner... what would that be? The north or west face of the keep?

Whatever, it is the side of the front gate -- which faces away from the ravine.

Gustave peers around the corner and spies... Olaf, Pelenwin, and Desmond! They appear to be... waiting?
