Rodrick is first into the chamber, followed closely by Crystin, Mads, Olaf, Dieter and Ulric. Taines, Caine, Victor and Anwyn also follow but won't make it into contact this round.

Rodrick swings his bulky flail overhead as he rushes the fountain. The great, arched tentacle reacts like a bloated but lightning-quick snake, darting down toward him as a viper might (initiative is rolled; Rodrick 1d6=2, foe 1d6=6) and meets the charging templar with a full frontal splash (1d20=14) of tidal-wave force that knocks him back in his tracks, and showers both Crystin and Mads behind him with frigid water! Rodrick flails ineffectively with his limbs and weapon as he is totally immersed in the hostile column of water and lifted wholly from the ground -- already choking on the evil water that forces its way willfully into his lungs (save to come...)!

Crystin's torch is instantly extinguished in the icy deluge, so she abandones it and grasps the light mace at her belt as she bounds up to the fountain. Mads too is wet down as he rushes beneath the rising tentacle to plunge his hand-axe violetly into the serpentine sculpture that makes up the fountain proper, landing a resounding blow with a violent splash of his own and cracking off a twist of graven snake.

Dieter follows them into the room, hurling his formidable bulk through the wet, near-dark chamber and leaping magnificently into the wide basin to ram the wedge of his metal pry-bar into the sinuous form of the fountain state with shuddering force that breaks off another chunk of stone and wedging the pry-bar deep in the mass of the tangled stone serpents.

As this occurs, Olaf and Ulric have both sidled into the chamber, skirting the wall. Olaf has an arrow nocked, but he dare not fire lest he slay one of his companions. Ulric has his sling in one hand, and his lantern in the other, and his eyes are afire with a menacing coppery glow as the sorcery builds within him...

Taines is next into the room and spies the awful water monster that near drowned him, and also sees poor Rodrick held aloft, struggling desperately for air as the foul abomination cries with malicious glee "The filthy knightsesss diesss!"

Rodrick struggles on valiantly in the churning gout of water (save; 1d20=13) but he cannot defeat so foul a foe, and his lungs are crammed with water and he is drowned!

The tentacle seems to be made entirely of water. It originates in the large basin of water at the fountain base.

Ulric waits to see if he can get a clear line of sight at the tentacle. If he can Ulric will unleash the Anthracite Sufferance at the watery beast. If this does not occur he will try to pull Roderick from the melee and resuscitate him if the tentacle releases him.

With the bulk of the party teeming about the fountain it is very unlikely that Ulric will "get a clear target". You may want to specify a contingency plan so that your round won't be wasted [img]images/smiley/wink.png[/img]
