Crystin swipes at the tentacle with dual maces (1d20=19) and hits with her light mace causing a violent splash and (1d6=6) 6 hit points of damage while Mads hews furiously at the fountain itself with his axe, smashing off several more pieces of stone work and creating a spray of water.
At the same time Dieter is straining his mighty muscles (1d6=6) against his pry-bar, and with a roar and a great crack breaks off the entire upper section of the statue which topples majestically into the basin with a thundrous din and a huge splash! As it does so, a vast litter of shiny coins and sparkley objects spill out of the statue's insides, and then into and over the wide basin along with a huge wash of water.
"Noooooooo!" wails the monster in a foul shriek, twisting poor Rodrick unnaturally in its contorting clutches and crushing the last his ebbing life from him as it does so (1d6=4) causing 4 hit points.
Taines glances about the water-logged chamber in a flash, looking for anything that might burn. Olaf drops his bow and joins the fray, slashing at the horrid tentacle with his sword (1d20=13) and slicing into it for (2dd=3,4) 2 hit-points of damage as it flings Rodrick's sodden body aside in a wild rage!
Taines quickly sees the whole place is awash with water, and so kneels to pull the oil flash from his pack just as Caine enters the room at a run, leaps right over Taines with two daggers slashing at the tentacle monster (1d20=8) but it has snapped back in a flash before he can strike.
Having no safe option to unleash his magic, Ulric races to Rodrick's crumpled body and searches for any sign of life while Taines manages to ignite a cloth wick with the lantern flame burning atop his helm and stuff it into the neck of his oil flask...
Victor too runs into the room, albeit less gracefully than Caine, and attempts to impress his morning star upon the monster (1d20=6), but he cannot match the monster's pace either, and misses.
Meanwhile Anwyn has avoided the ruckus, standing fast in the door arch, waiting for an opportunity to fire safely into the melee (1d6=1) but none presents.
Finally Uric looks up from Rodrick, his face almost as ashen as the fallen hero's as he realises there is nothing he can do.
Rodrick has died.
The monster looks livid with rage.
Your intentions please...
