| Turn 3.8.3 is a combat turn.
Magnus and Tumbly join the fray against the leeches. It is the first turn of combat for Magnus and Tumbly, so they will strike first as the leeches do not have longer weapons. But it's a subsequent turn of combat for Vergas so, as neither side has a reach advantage, he'll dice for initiative against the leeches.
Magnus 1d20=7, missses AC 8. Tumbly 1d20=18, hits AC 8, 1d6=3 hit points, slays a second leech. The two remaining then have 6,10 hit points.
Now Vergas dice for initiative 1d6=1, leeches 1d6=1, so it's simultaneous attacks. Two leeches remain and they'll attack Vergas and Magnus seeing that Tumbly just finished the other one off. Vergas 1d20=17 hits AC8, 1d6=5 reduces the leeches to 1, 10 hit points.
The bruised and battered leech attacks Magnus 1d20=11, misses AC3. Simultaneously the other leech (the alpha-leech in fact) attacks Vergas 1d20=19, and hits. With an unlikely lunge it pierces his neck with its dagger-tongue for 1d6=4 hit points damage, and suckers onto his throat! |
[p Man,plate+helm, sword, open hand,12,9/9]Magnus[/p] and [p Halfling,mail+helm,mace,shield,9,7/7]Tumbly[/p] now rush to [p Man,mail+helm,hammer,shield,9,6/6]Vergas[/p]' assistance against the profane black slugs; [p Halfling,mail+helm,mace,shield,9,7/7]Tumbly[/p] destroys one and [p Man,mail+helm,hammer,shield,9,6/6]Vergas[/p] delivers another sore lesson, but the alpha-leech strikes like a cobra and suckers horribly onto [p Man,mail+helm,hammer,shield,9,2/6]Vergas[/p]' neck! The foul parasite immediately begin gorging on the cleric's arterial life-blood. The other leech quests toward [p Man,plate+helm, sword, open hand,12,9/9]Magnus[/p], but much of its zing has already been beaten out of it.
| Meanwhile, the snake-cultists have come to investigate the noise. Their cautious movement rate enables them to reach the plaza entry by the end of the turn. As they enter the plaza the referee dices to determine whether they will be surprised. As the players are laying well in ambush the referee rules a throw of 3-6 will surprise them. The players throw 1d6=3 and the snake-cultists will be caught off guard! Next turn (3.8.4) will be a surprise turn for the players versus the snake-cultists.
It appears the plan has worked perfectly! |
The two bare-chested, hooded Men emerge from the boulevard and onto the plaza, now carrying torches and flails. They immediately spot [p Man,plate+helm, sword, open hand,12,9/9]Magnus[/p], [p Halfling,mail+helm,mace,shield,9,7/7]Tumbly[/p], and [p Man,mail+helm,hammer,shield,9,2/6]Vergas[/p] and recognise their plight against the leeches, but only stop to watch. When the alpha-leech latches onto [p Man,mail+helm,hammer,shield,9,2/6]Vergas[/p]'s throat they Oh! and chuckle at the entertainment, "Aww, that's gotta hurt!" one remarks to the other in the common tongue.
