Caine leads out, followed quickly by Anwyn. The two of you sidle across the open ground as stealthily as shadows, and soon both have your backs against the ruinous outer western wall. Although it is has long ago collapsed, it is still 5 to 10ft taller than either of you along most of its length.
Deadly daggers in hand, you creep toward the broken opening in the wall whence you spied your quarry some ten or so minutes earlier. Just a step from the breach you pause -- hearts in mouths -- and dare to peer around the corner into the interior...
The keep must have originally been of square construction with a single box tower in the opposite corner, with an adjacent gate arch in the south facing wall. The curtain wall originally enclosed a small cobbled bailey entirely, but now has several breaches, and the remains of the eastern wall are particularly low.
The interior is now rubble-strewn, overgrown, and guarded only by crumbling walls. The tower and gate arch remain partially intact, with an exterior stone stair running up one side of the tower to an open doorway. Sheltering from the sun in the shade of the gate-arch you spy two squatting Hobgoblins attired in grubby shirts of rings and stout helmets. Their spears and shields lean against the wall nearby. (1d20=12) they do not appear to notice you as they continue to throw small stones and mutter to one another...
The court is approximately 20 yards wide, and the Hobgoblins in the gate arch are about the same distance away from you. The gate itself appears to be intact and barred from the inside.
