09 - Spring time in Baymoor

Day 4 of the Willow, 11,014YW.

Oisin has come of a busy week entertaining the various lords and knights of Baymoor. He knows he can make good wage as a Court Entertainer but is that what he really wants? The vast Keep of Baymoor is open to him as is the country beyond. What thoughts pass through the Fair head of Oisin on this fine spring morning.

Re: 09 - Spring time in Baymoor

Oisin is anxious to see more of the world but even he (Wis 7) is not so foolish as to wander away from Baymoor on his own. He needs traveling companions... and gold to hire them.

Oisin thinks back on the events of the previous week. Are there any lords he's entertained, married ones, who lack for wits but not for money? He's of a mind to engage in a scam in order to secure some coin.

Re: 09 - Spring time in Baymoor

Oisin is stuck by a clever thought.

Sir Elmu, certainly has more money then brains, his suite in the upper western towers are lavish, his wife is vapish and obsessed with doilies on which she has embroidered Elmu coat of arms. A reminder she thrusts at all visitors, least they stain the wood.

The memory and the summation rattle around in Oisin's head.

Re: 09 - Spring time in Baymoor

Oisin will spend a few days throwing some silver around with the servants of the upper western towers, entertaining them with amusing anecdotes of the rich falling on their faces, buying them drinks, and trying to learn more about Sir Elmu and his wife.

What business is he in? What hobbies does he prefer? Who is he scared of, in an "above me in the social pecking order" sort of way? Does he travel anywhere on a regular basis?

Any similar tendencies he can learn of the wife would also be valued.

Re: 09 - Spring time in Baymoor

Oisin spends 10sp gathering his information.

Sir Elmu is the second son of Sir Wythe, Lord of Fernvale. Fernvale is a hold in southern Cantril about 15 miles NorthEast from Sorby, on the Edge of the Forest. Sir Elmu was assigned by the King's Court to serve 4 years at Baymoor by the King's pleasure. Elmu is not happy with this posting and frequently describes Lower Trinity as a Backwater, a Pig Stye, and a Prison. He rarely leaves Baymoor unless ordered except for the occasional trip to Quayside when he hears of interesting arrivals from the North in that port town.

He has no business interests content to live off the purse of his father.

He does like to Hunt, and at home was avid hunter of deer in the forests.

He has developed an interesting model ships, perhaps this is because he wants to sail home as soon as possible, he has a good collection of them.

He is in high standing in the order of the castle, a notch below Sir Goet and Sir Regfel who sit as Advisors to Lord Hilgef.

HIs wife does travel to Alu on the Downs and Quayside with other ladies for the Market Days on a regular basis. This is not unusual, and always done in groups escorted by guards.

Re: 09 - Spring time in Baymoor

Oisin will spend a little more coin to find out exactly what interests Elmu about new arrivals from the North. Is it interesting people or new goods or something else?

| Mike, do you want me to reveal my plan for the scam ahead of time or are we just going to play it out as it goes along? |

Re: 09 - Spring time in Baymoor

New goods specifically. Trade from the North is uncommon when compared to the importation of goods from Cantril and Zorzil. So when he hears that a ship has arrived from the North he is intrigued.

ooc: However you want to play it :)

Re: 09 - Spring time in Baymoor

What sort of goods come in from the North? Specifically, do any very valuable goods come from the North? Any artwork or other items that are quite valuable in and of themselves?

What's the average value of the model ships he collects?

Re: 09 - Spring time in Baymoor

The most common shipments come from Upper Trinity and sometimes the ship would have done some trading with the Elves of Little trinity. These shipments can have have

Otter Furs
Honey
Elven Wine
Carved Wooden items made of Trinity Pine
Weapons from Vastil (Heavy Crossbows, Plate Mail, Pole Arms)
Herrings

Very Rare is a ship from Darmoor (Castle Vengeance) which may have exotic goods from the lands beyond the Kingdom.

War Trophy's Skulls of Lizardmen, Orcs, Giants. Hides of exotic monsters. Weapons of odd design.
Exotic Woods
Gems and Gemstones

The model ships can run from 50gp to 500gp in value depending on the workmanship and material. A skilled model maker can build one in a month or so. But the more detailed the longer it takes. (A skilled worker makes at least 2sp a day plus the material)
