Re: (069) Pilgrims & Practicalities

Dhren will volunteer lady Josiane to go and fetch her owl, if his work in the abbey is completed. "I should like the chance to accompany you, if it please, good lady," he will say to her.

| ...But Dhren is only 1st level at the moment. Could we ask you, WOTE, if another inactive PC go as well to shore up the defense of going outside the walls? Is this too presumptuous a question? |

Dorgan will accompany the Miss as well.

| With Desmond and Ulric inside, that's enough firepower for the moment. |

Re: (069) Pilgrims & Practicalities

Here is a very basic scratch-map of the abbey layout for your orientation:
  Code:
.................................................................................
.................................................................................
...Apple.......=======================================================...........
...Orchard..../\......./--|Bell|.......|........................\..../.\..........
............/...\...../...Tower|.......|.........................\../....\........
Damaged..xX......\.../.....====........|.....Chapel...............\/.......\.......
.Wall..xX.Kitchen.\./..................\........................../..........\......
......Xx----------/--...................\..............Entry...../.............\.....
......X........../........................--------------HHH-----/\...Infirmary...\....
......|.........|..............................................|...\...............\...
......|Refectory|.............................................X/.....\..............\...
......|.........|.............................................|........\...X Stair...|..
......|.........|............................................./..........\...........|...
......|.........|............................................|..Library...\...Study..|...
......|.........|..........................Guntram's...-----./.......................|...
......|..........\..........................Breach....|.....|........................|..
......\..\--------\--------------------------+-XXX+---|.....|---+--................./..
........\..\Privy./.............|............|XXX.|..Cloister...|................./...
..........\..\.../.....Dorms....|....Dorms...|XXX.|.............|.............../.....
............\..\/---------------+-------------XXX.----|.....|---+....Lobby..../......
..............\............Passage....................|.....|.............HH.........
..N.............=========================================================....Front..
.W+E........................................................................Door...
..S..............................................................................
in reality, the abbey is more egg-shaped than the above implies. The eastern end is broader and the western end narrower, and the entirety of the outer wall is really a continuous, smooth curve. Note that the dorms are a series of smaller spaces, and also note that the chapel is under-represented above; in fact it is the largest feature of the abbey, and is probably about four times the area of the refectory.

So bear in mind that the abbey's actual dimension do not translate into ASCII very neatly, but at least this gives you an idea.

There is ample time to go back and fetch another one.

While they are doing that, he will use the spare crossbow to secure the door at the other end of the dormitory with some of their wire and small brass pulleys. He won't actually set the trap until they are sure everyone who is going to go into the dormitory for the evening is in the dormitory.
Does Desmond/Mondes still want to trap the eastern end of the dorms with a loaded crossbow (after Josiane and Dhren return from the lobby with Hoot?)

Merctime wrote:Once Dhrenis satisfied that there are no secret places inside the abbey to be found
To search the entire abbey would be the work of many days. Let's presume that Dhren has spent an hour or so pacing out and searching the inside wall from the refectory thru to the lobby while the others have been preparing the dorms for a good night's rest.

Ulric is largely unimpressed with it; Dorgan notes that the "timber" is especially hard, but otherwise the three of them conclude the weapon is not of any make commonly known to Men or Dwarfs. It must be imported from foreign parts.

Re: (069) Pilgrims & Practicalities

As the evening draws on to dusk, the company make good use of the time.

With the pilgrims as a workforce, they are collectively able to clear out the worst of the filth from the dorms, and--with soap, water, brushes, buckets, and mops form the laundry--the floor are scrubbed. The sour pong of werewolf is vanquished and replaced by the hygienic whiff of soap and lavender. Fresh linen is brought up from the laundry also, and fresh beds for 25 are made good. The pilgrims are much pleased with this--and the idea that they will sleep under the watchful guard of heroic figures such as The Rock, Double Trouble, The Firestarter, and--most importantly--The Saint Herself!

Josiane and Dhren unbar the front door to go outside and call for Hoot the owl | ref rolls to see whether the owl will come, or is busy elsewhere... 2d6=11 | and as if by magic the owl immediately flaps down from the trees to perch on her outstretched (and gloved) fist.

When the evening meal time comes the fare is comprised mostly of the light but strangely wholesome Elvish way bread. It is not a hearty meal by the standards of men (nor dwarfs nor halflings!), but it is a sustaining one. The pilgrims eat it cautiously, and are thankful. They look especially to The Saint to say a few pious words or prayer before their meal, and before bed, and for any indication of what the morrow might hold for them..?

| Ways, let me know if you need an updated list of watches. I am assuming that everyone who needs sleep for leveling is not on watch. Dhren and Dorgan have volunteered to do double watches to make sure this happens. |

Re: (069) Pilgrims & Practicalities

| Okay people, it's time to cash in on some XP.

Let us say that, as dusk turns to evening, and the pilgrims turn in for the night--utterly exhausted--the player-types stay up a while longer to discuss the division of whatever loot has been captured thus far.

Everybody, please turn out your pockets and list off whatever treasure there is to be shared out. Remember that treasure division will impact your XP earnings!

Also remember that some players (namely Dieter, Olaf, Torben, Wen, and Highbough) have not returned. You may wish to apportion treasure to them, or not. It's up to you. Remember that Dieter presently carries the neutrally-aligned magic sword that was recovered from the Shadows' pit.

So what other loot is there to divide? |

A fair and noble gesture to be sure, but perhaps not the most strategic option ;)

Let us firstly enumerate what treasure there is to divide. Then you can look at how best to allocate the available XP...
