Basically, man-type indicates humans, demi-humans, and humanoids (with some few others added into the mix such as fairies).

Dubeers has already explained, but I'd also add that "man-type" is the terminology that preceded "demi-human" and "humanoid", so we use it in DD for a little bit of authenticity, if you want to call it that.

Im thinking elf with those rolls. Must re view char gen section

doh was going to go backwards with rolls so str 14, int 15 etc...thought it looked to good to be true...still thinking elf mind as I dont feel we need yet another cleric. I wouldnt mind being a cleric however
ps
if i go elf i assume i could start as a fighter to get hp(hd1+2) then sneakily become a mu to get spells and scrolls?? or do i need to be mu for scroll and spells then switch to F? the joy of minmaxing old skool style For spells im torn - comprehend languages may be needed for an int 9 elf. Sleep is a solid choice and read magic i assume needed for spell book understanding. I think i spotted good ol magic missle so a ranged attack may be a good choice....dear o dear i remember why i always played a thief now

see first draft below

Looks good Trebormills. Presumably you have double rations so that you can feed the monsters?

It always works with guard dogs in the movies... why not with displacer beasts, too?

you dont get as charming as me without feeding them up first you know...i guess i need to type it up and do some fluff then

done, an eye for the ladies and a tendency to favor knives marks this elf as always able to find trouble. You find food can go a long way with mortals whom seem obsessed with the stuff- all good elves like berries and wine (made from berries)
ps
what monsters?

Sorry to be such a flake. Here is a draft of my first attempt:

Malaveque the Mage
Elvish MU - Level 1
Chaotic

Taking Roll 7 (10) as my initial gold pieces (10x10=100gp)

Str: 5 (open doors 6, Weight limit 50 lb)
Int: 15 (7 languages, PR +5% Exp)
Wis: 13
Dex: 11
Con: 13
Chr: 5 (Does not win friends or influence people)

Equipment: 2 daggers, staff, backpack, cloak, Iron rations (1wk), Sack (small), Sack (large), Tinderbox, Waterskin, Torches (12), Rope 50', Spell Book, Scroll of Sleep, Scroll of Charm Person

I make it 12 gp remaining and encumbrance of 41.5 lb out of 50 allowed. I did not count weight for the backpack, sacks, or scrolls. The tinderbox weight is listed as (-).

Languages: (for Elf) Elvish, Gnoll, Hobgoblin, orc, Chaotic alignment, Common, (and 7 more?)

Elf Skills: +1 damage with magic weapons, near invisible, move almost silently, locate secret doors (3-6), discern noises when listening (5-6), immune to paralysis by ghouls

Spell Book: Charm person, Comprehend Languages, Detect Magic, Sleep, Hold Portal, Read Magic, Light

Spells memorized: Sleep

Malaveque is an outcast Elf, in part due to his brooding and sarcastic nature and also his deformed appearance, the result of an ambitious alchemy experiment gone wrong as an adolescent. His skin is marred by acid burns from the right half of his face across his chest and down his right arm. His right hand is functional, but badly scarred, leaving him somewhat weak. He has lost his hair on the right side where only scars remain, while on the left it grows unkempt due to inattention. Driven out by his own people, he has sought various employment in order to fund continued magical studies. He has been with the mercenary band for about a year, and has been considering leaving as the rewards have been lacking.

(Edited: PS. Assumed rope was sold by the foot and weight works proportionally.

If this is good, I'll repost to the active character thread.)

(Edited again. Does the referee wish to roll for the starting hit points?)
