Re: The First Adventure

While Willie pulls off his pack, he tells the others about the narrow, low passage.

"I don't mind going in first," he offers. "I have my lantern."

While armour is being converted, Willie pulls a few feet of rope off the coil that's tied to the side of his pack, then ties the loose end back to one of the pack's straps. In this way, with the loop around his shoulders and across his chest, he can tug the pack along right behind him, leaving one hand clear to move the lantern ahead of him, and the other free for crawling.

These preparations made, he says: "I'm ready!"

He takes a deep, steadying breath, then crawls on hands and knees into the passage.

Dougal, waits patiently while Willie prepares his armour and slips into the crack behind him, dagger already drawn.

Re: The First Adventure

Chegs clad only in leather armor will sheath his warhammer when needed if he has to take off his backpack to squeeze through tight spots, otherwise should be good with his shield.

Re: The First Adventure

For sake of advancing the narrative, I will say that our Heroes, with Willie in the lead, spend all of Turn 2 crawling, crawling, crawling uneventfully at a torturous 3" movement rate. At some points, the tunnel expands. There is room to kneel, catch one's breath, and shift positions. In other places, it's a really tight squeeze. The Hobbets must slither on their bellies and push or pull their belongings.

I imagine Potty as a relatively slender fellow, at home in the subterranean environment.

Tet, while stout, is surprisingly supple, and I imagine the big Hobbet squeezing through the tunnels with the same grace as anyone. But not wearing that metal armor, he's not. I'm curious to know his "standard operating procedure" for managing his mail armor in the often claustrophobic underground environment. Remember that underneath his mail, he wears a padded undergarment equal to leather armor.

Re: The First Adventure

Willie is having a surprisingly great time! He's getting dirty, he's exploring the unknown with a group of stout comrades, and he's found the feeling of tons of earth over his head to be exhilarating! He presses on into the darkness, dragging his pack behind him and pushing his lantern ahead.

Re: The First Adventure

Turn 3

Willie pushes through into a large cavern that extends beyond his lantern light to the right and left. The cave ceiling is roughly 20' high and is covered with stalactites. To the west, the cave ceiling rises at least 30' and out of sight.

The cave floor is dotted with stalagmites, the largest of which measure twice the height of a Hobbet. The spaces between the stalagmites are packed with giant puffballs, crowded together like a flock of sheep.
