After the body doesn't move for a full minute, Gerar decides it's safe enough, and nudges it first with his boot, and then with a finger. It doesn't move.

Satisfied the corpse is no longer a threar Gerar examines the body. It appears to be some kind of awfully emaciated Goblin, excepting that the fangs, claws and nostrils are grossly exaggerated, while the eyes are absent altogether. Whatever it is, the thing was once well dressed. It robes were of a well made, expensive sort but a dirty and worn now. There is a neat silver buckle upon its belt as well as a coin purse, and it wore a ring upon the smallest digit of its left hand. Curious.

It will far more difficult to forget the ghastly thing's image, Gerar thinks as he loots the goodies.

Gerar (and the body) are at a T intersection.

He can go back, left or right... either way appears equally dark and uninviting. Which is it, left or right? Or back?

Might as well go right, thinks Gerar. His palms are beginning to sweat.

Very well.

Gerar straightens his spine with a subtle crack (all this bending double is beginning to strain him), and proceeds to the right.

The passage is decidedly less "tidy" as he proceeds; small pebbles and other detritus lie about, stones are dislodged and pavers askew. Yet, encouragingly, the much of it has been cast to the sides of the corridor; leading Gerar to conclude that others must have used this route, even if irregularly.

He continues a while, traversing cautiously with candle and foil held before him, until he spies ahead in the gloom something of a "dog leg" in the passage. There is a perpendicular turn to the left, immediately followed by a like turn to the right, so that the passage continues on as before into the dark.

The passage seems clear of detritus for the short space between the two turns.

What now?

Gerar proceeds into the dog-leg corner... ah, is that a door he spies ahead?

Click!

His candle is snuffed in a rush of air as the floor beneath Gerar's feet gives way!

His stomach seems suddenly in his throat as he falls into utter darkness... and immediately hits a cold, hard, and steep incline, and finds himself ssssssliding uncontrollably, bumping, grazing, tumbling, rushing blindly down a chute into blackness!
