Envongr is lying on the grass, smoking the pipe. He has little idea what is going on, and he doesn't really care. Ah, so peaceful...

"Well, then..." Olaf looks across at the chapel, "Let's secure the rope over here and take it with us. I'd like to have some preparations of an escape route before we commit ourselves too deeply."

He looks down toward the ground, "It is soooo tempting to stick my head down there and see what is really below, but no, better to be more cautious than that."

The Rooftops
(Highbough and Olaf)

The bell tower stands between our pair and about 30ft of open ground. Beyond that stands the rear of the chapel.

Here's a mud map to clarify:

....................................
..........Outer Wall................
....=============================...
====......|__........./.............
........O.|..|......./..............
........H.|__|......|.Rear of.......
..--------'..\......|..Chapel.......
............Bell.....\..............
............Tower.....\.............
....................................
..............Interior..............
................Garden..............

However, Highbough notes sourly that he has not spied any sign of his allies (or anyone else!) since gaining the rooftops. Belaying his rope over the edge of the roof top they currently occupy reveals that the mysterious surface stands between them and the interior courtyard here also!

Highbough suggests to Olaf the ancient Elf decision-making method of rochambeau to determine who goes first down the rope. As always when facing humans, he makes the hand gesture for paper. ("Men always throw rock, how predictable," he arrogantly thinks to himself.)

The Camp Site
(Envongr, Garven, and Murphy the Mule)

Envongr lies back puffing on Garven's pipe for a while... it sure is peaceful out here... gazing lazily at the patchy clouds that drift across the blue sky. Murphy the mule continues to munch on whatever tussocks of hardy grass he can find at the edge of Envongr's consciousness... even the mule's rhythmic yunching is relaxing.

After a time Garven says "You like that, eh? That's a rare deep-cavern weed grown from the warmth of the Earth. We call it Menamain in our speak," with a certain smugness in his gravelly voice.

(1d20=8; Envongr fails his saving throw versus poison)

"You'll find it nice an' easy, I reckon" the Dwarf is saying as he gets up and starts rifling through the saddle bags... but Envongr hardly hears him as he descends into a deep slumber...

OOC: Sorry, been sick the last few days and didn't look at posts over the weekend. I'm fine with Highbough going down the rope first.

Olaf will follow him...

The game of rock-parchment-knives goes as predictably as Highbough anticipated, and so he wins the opportunity to descend first.

From Olaf's point of view it is as though the old, cloaked Elf wriggles through a pond's surface, vanishing from view entirely as he passes beyond.

From Highbough's point of view, he experiences a slight resistance as he pushes through the illusionary surface... somewhat like breaking through thick cobwebs. And then....
