"Psst, there's some talkin' beyond this door," Orim says to the others quietly, motioning in case they cannot hear. In the meantime, he moves back away from the door.

Lemmi moves to confirm Orim's suspicion, testing her own well-tuned ear at the door.

"If you had a string and some pine sap, you might be able to fish the coin back out" suggests Mero.

Morin asks Orim in whisper if he was able to identify the nature of the language he heard.

Lemmi tries her ear at the door, and hears the voices clear as if they were talking right to her...

Meanwhile, Orim and Morin confer. It wasn't any speak Orim recognised, but the redoubtable dwarf isn't exactly a scholar of the obscure tongues.

But, fer a wonderment, Lemmi knows that cud-muttering! It's the cave-speak of the Neanderthal men. There's a few of 'em, that's clear. They're debatin' something about turning back or going on.
Lemmi's listening check 1d6=6.

Boggs silently gestures for his men to hold position and ready their spears. He is fluent in cave-speak.

Mero sees the company readying for a scrap, and readies his arms and armor.

Lemmi relates this information quietly to Orim and Meno.

She also proposes a deception of sorts: She will open the door and politely enquire as to the purpose of the other party. If they prove to be unaccommodating, she will retreat, allowing the fighting types to take the pursuing foe in ambush.

She grins happily upon delivery of this scheme and waits for the approval that is surely coming.

Orim nods. "A good a plan as any, I'd say." He readies his spear.

Chiron says, Also note that I have a spell that can tip the balance of a group's reaction toward being a little more friendly... but I'd need to cast it right as we encounter them.
