Brother Walfried listens to the report of the away team with some consternation.

"I just don't like the thought of all those closed doors behind us," he grumbles. "Let's just go back & break them down, if they can't be opened by ordinary means. Or does anyone have any oil to use on the hinges?"

"Fate has decreed those ways shut to our company. And they are no more to our backs than the portals leading from this chamber," answers Mero, indicating the doors on the far sides of the boat room. "I again proffer my original proposal: let us venture down the passage behind the door opened along the side of this room."

Morin agrees with the others. This poses a question: which direction do we head beyond the door — forward, or to the left?

Brother Walfried only-a-little-grumpily agrees to exploring the passages beyond the boat room. In preparation he fully opens the propped door he's been standing guard over and takes a glance out into the passages.
