Freid comes out of his deep sleep with a start. He grabs his sword and scrambles to his feet. Seeing the dragon...talking to Karl...Freid blinks his eyes and tries to clear his head. He doesn't attack, but stands ready.

I wasn't. I was just reacting to the situation at hand. But who knows? It's all in there, somewhere.

Unless alerted or there is a enough noise to wake him Zem would continue to sleep. Perhaps dreaming of gold and dragons.

Joining up (seemingly!) random game events into an unlikely story is the awesomeness of D&D. Bring it on!

Dicing for player languages turns out to be a huge boon for story building, cos who would have really picked the Gold Dragon tongue? (Or, over in the other thread, who would have really picked the Caveman language?) Who would have guessed a Gold Dragon would random show up and the player on watch would be a Gold Dragon speaker?? That's why I love D&D :D

Rrrright. So Karl is an 8 charisma which... (looking up the tables) is no reaction adjustment. Let's see how the dragon responds to Karl's overtune of friendship (bearing in mind--if it's a near thing--that Fried has just scrambled to his feet with a bared sword).

2d6=...

The golden dragon retreats a few paces; maintaining the distance to Karl and increasing that to Fried.

"Stay your hand, Karlson." she warns. "You too have grown; you are no longer a boy, but a Man. I have not survived this long without learning that hearts of Men are fickle... and dangerous. Still, I recall the boy fondly, and wondered were it you. Such that it is, I tell you this: there are cunning goblins roaming this night, come down from yonder hills with wolves a sniffing. They are hardly five miles behind you, in the south east."

So, that's a neutral reaction.

Leudiger takes note of the dragon's reaction to Freid's sword and that Karl is apparently communicating with the dragon, and hisses, "Away with the sword, Freud!. It's a gold dragon. Maybe it's here to help us."

"I thank you for your warning," Karl says, gravely."Can you tell me how many goblins and wolves there are?"

Karl relays the information to his comrades (who don't speak golden dragon) and says "we may be in for a fight."
