Leudigar edges his way between two statues, muffles a bell with the cloth from a dead monk's robes, then squats to pass under the chain as he lifts it marginally with one hand. From there it's an easy sidle about 20ft along to the top of the old stone ramp that runs about 40ft down to the central hub of the chamber... still nothing seems to move, but the awful stink seems even more present here.
What now?

Leudigar cautiously waives off anyone following him until he can get a better idea of what they are dealing with.

He makes his way to the top of the ramp and then goes down the ramp, wary of any surprises that might be the source of the stench.

Back at the rear of the party, Freid keeps an eye on the room behind him where the dead monks lay scattered about.

He whispers to whoever is ahead of him, "What's the hold up? What's going on up there?"

"Shh! Akbar!"

Leudigar sidles down the ramp like a cat stalking a bird... he hardly makes a sound as he descends 10ft, 25ft, 20ft. The foot of the ramp is less than 10ft ahead of him now, leading out onto a 30t square plateau littered with small stone and detritus, and bisected by two 15ft broad archways.

On this side of the arches, the tracker can see two tumble-down walls that might, once, have supported a roof over an ante-house in front of the arches. Whatever it was has long since collapsed; none of it is now taller than shoulder high to the ranger. Amid the fallen rocks there is an old brass brazier; the coals in it are burning low, creating heat, and the dim ocher glow that illuminates this place.

Through the arches, Leudigar dimly senses a deeper, darker space, that must be at least as large as that on this side. It seems cool and quiet, but smells uninviting even from here...
Leudigar? Anyone up top doing anything?

Leudigar motions for the others to slowly come down and follow him.

Then he readies his bow and waits for them to make it to his position.

Karl patiently waits his turn to proceed, while keeping an eye on the party's back trail.

Zem is standing guard near the entrance ready to attack/defend/flee as needed.

Freid moves forward in his turn, keeping an eye on the rear, and being careful to make as little sound as possible.

Zax threads himself through the gap between the statue and the wall, taking as much care as possible (in gnomish battle-plate) not to trigger the chain and bells.

Succeeding in this, he joins the ranger.
