Re: (082) The Darkness Below

Do we want to check the door across from the one that led us in here? (East side of the corridor.)

Re: (082) The Darkness Below

For the record, I believe Zax went out the north (on the mudmap) door and turned left. That would be akin to having gone straight at the previous intersection instead of going left and then entering the door on the right.

We could let him go off on his own and scramble back to us when nobody has followed him. Or I suppose we could just go out the north door and turn left and follow him...

I think we should follow him.

I think we should stay together, and if that means following him, then let's follow him! :)

Re: (082) The Darkness Below

Zax eyes the corridor ahead; the endless, treasure-free tunnels, filled with sadistic, god-hugging long-legs and vermin green-skins, and is suddenly very tired.

He sits against the wall for a respite, and ponders life choices.

Re: (082) The Darkness Below

A lot of thinking... but not much happening? Who goes where?

In terms of treasure-free dungeons it's kinda interesting to observe; this group has been a smooth operation in terms of sniffing out the monsters, but not quite so hot on finding the treasure...

FWIW, my distribution of monsters and treasure makes treasure marginally more likely than strictly by-the-book (2 in 6 versus 10 in 36). However, it means I can throw one six-sided die per room (versus two throws), which makes it possible to markup a whole level all at once with a single handful of d6s (one die per room). My distribution looks like this:

1--3 Empty room
4 Monster
5 Monster+Treasure
6 Treasure only

So statistically, one in three rooms has treasure guys.
Unguarded treasure should be hidden behind secret doors, under floorboards, up chimneys, or made invisible; or secured in safes filled with deadly gas, or strong boxes trapped with poisoned needles, or any similar protection devised by the referee.

Re: (082) The Darkness Below

Once the monks have been searched, Leudigar takes some time to search the floor, looking for loose pavestones that might hide the monks' treasure. Then he also examines the walls not containing doors (south and west), looking for secret doors.

Zax continues to chew on his moustache, deep in thought. Perhaps a revelation is coming...

Re: (082) The Darkness Below

While Zax establishes his "watch" out in the dim passage, Leudigar takes to poking, prodding, and generally inspecting the floor and two walls of the room. After a few minutes, Zem and Akbar catch on and help out to speed the process along. Karl and Fried stand alert just in case...

"Wha's this here?" whispers Zem; the dwarf's fingers have found a crack in the wall almost impossible for eyes to see. It is hardly a string-line wide, dead straight, and vertical. Soon the dwarf traces the outline of a 3ft x 4ft block of stone that appears to be separate from the main mass of the wall. It's almost directly opposite from the portal he entered the room by.
I'm going to assume that all the other players not mentioned have returned to the kitchen area on level 1, which was deemed a good place to hole up and wait.

So we have six players present, yes?

I'm also going to assume, for expediency, that three players do the searching in one turn rather than one player doing it in three turns while everyone else waits.

The ref throws a bunch of dice behind the screen (heh), which make a suitable rattle. At least one of them is a wandering monster check.

A fine assumption I was about to post that, but as a lawful I wanted to make sure fallen where given some sort of show of respect.
