(081) Journeymen Returned

Wen and Highbough have returned from Vulfenlund's red sands to the Blasted Abbey.

They soon learn that a whole season has passed since they departed; it is now summer in the Hinterlands. In that time Dorgan has established himself as master of the abbey and attracted a modest contingent approximately two dozen servitors and protectors. Dorgan's troop have made minor repairs and restablished the abbey's gardens; they seem modestly well supplied, for now.

Meanwhile, the township of Ket fall to a Goblin army perhaps a month ago. There are still men fighting guerilla campaign against the goblins in the field, but there is no force able to tackle the occupying army.
The next turn will be in town time, allowing the elves time to recuperate and plot their next stratagem. How do you want to proceed?

Wen is thankful to have survived the time in Vulfenlund, the news that time has passed and Dorgan has secured the Abbey is good. Wen would do his utmost to be deferential to Dorgan in his role as Master of the Abbey."If it is not too much to ask Lord Dorgan we could use a set of rooms to recover in, I do not think we will be staying long but it is a huge relief to know that you hold the Abbey and will be aware of the others should the return."
Wen needs to rest, study spells, try to identify the Wand and Arrows, (and Chaotic Mace that Highbough found as well as needed). Also Wen was very close to 3rd lvl Wizard so if possible could we check XP?

Yes, assuming that Wen and Highbough secure Lord Dorgan's hospitality and want to spend a week of "town time" at the Abbey, they can cash in earned XP and, potentially, level up. Gonna be a mission to figure out where we are at with the XP... any info you can dig up will be helpful :)

Highbough will spend the week identifying magic items, starting with the mace.

XP Notes

Last reward was http://forum.immersiveink.com/viewtopic ... 886#p22886 and Wen's sheet is correctly up to date with that. So I think as far as Wen/Highbough are concerned it thread 73 and for the others thread 74 after the Worms Split.

1) Air Elemental released by Desmond we all battled until it fled here http://forum.immersiveink.com/viewtopic ... 719#p21719
2) Ulric/Josiane scry the location of Gustav
3) Worm Swarm attack begins here http://forum.immersiveink.com/viewtopic ... 054#p22054 splitting of the party occurs as Highbough / Wen draw off the worms and Dieter makes his stand that open the underground tunnels.
4) Highbough/Wen meet up in the ancient battle field starting here http://forum.immersiveink.com/viewtopic ... 566#p22566 Wen finds the wand first then arrows and then highbough finds the mace.
5) After wandering a while lost Highbough finds the Ring again here http://forum.immersiveink.com/viewtopic ... 759#p22759

That about all the action. You obviously have plot problem with Ulric both going and staying but in reading the threads I would say if you allowed Josiane to have the Orb then Ulric was not needed at all and as an NPC it's easier to hand wave that.

Dang, I totally forgot that Ulric had gone thru the Ring as an NPC :oops: No matter, I have made Dorgan the master of the abbey in his stead. I believe it was Dorgan's objective to return to the abbey in any case, so that should work out okay...

It was a season past when Dorgan parted ways with his stalwart company; they would venture beyond the enchanted Ring while he would set off with Morgan and the pilgrims in the hope of finding a cure for the poison in his blood; he had only days left unto him. Half-way toward the realm of the wood elves he encountered a column of Templars who were en-route from Maine to Ket to settle reported unrest. As it turned out, they were the same mission that Helmet and the pilgrims had diverted from, to seek the abbey, earlier. Dorgan won their trust, received vital treatment from their Miester, and handed the pilgrims into their care once more. He also procured supplies and several mirrors from them, short-circuiting his need to visit the elves (which was a doubtful course for the dwarf anyways).

His mission complete, Dorgan returned to the abbey hoping to aid his companions, while the Templar column tried their luck at Ket. When Dorgan returned to find the abbey he found it abandoned. He waited a day before returning to Ket hoping to assist or join the Templars, but found them already beaten and routed, and Ket itself overrun and occupied by goblin forces. Dorgan escored the what remaining Templars and refugees he could save to the abbey as a last safe fastness.

Therein he spent several weeks getting the abbey into a more defensible state. All that was a season past.

Now the abbey has a population of a dozen fighting-men (6 Maine templars and 6 Ket militia) and a similar number of refugees (townsfolk from Ket). The walls are boarded up and the gardens are operational... supplies are tight, but manageable for now with reasonable hunting. Something will need to be done to improve the situation soon...

Dorgan was almost ready to give up on his fellows ever returning when, out of the blue, Wooop! Highbough and Wen appear out of nowhere! Of course it would have ta be tha elves, wouldn't it?

They better have a darn good explanation...

As best as I can figure it from my ancient scrolls and posts, our heroes have the following XP:

Highbough 18,311 --> ?? (5th)
Dorgan 17,515 --> Armiger (5th)
Wen 17,321 --> Hero/Spellbinder (4th/3rd)

Clearly will need to dream up an appropriate title for a 5th level warlock...

Once apprised of their arrival, Dorgan rushes to greet them.

Ach, shoulda known the elves would be the first ta crack the code of the portal. What news do ye bring? Where are the others? Where is The Gustave?

Wen would breath a sigh of relief at the sight of Dorgan. "It remains to be seen if traveling through the Ring was a mistake or not, for or part we survived drawing off a group of giant sand worms giving the others a chance to escape. Last we saw Dieter was making a stand against a worm but it took us many hours to get back to the place and there was no sign of the others. I feel it in my bones they live, but with the time difference it will be long while until we see them. The world beyond the Ring is terrible and we are in need of some quiet and rest, is it safe for now in the Abbey?"
