The company has just exited the Gottfried tomb to find itself in the forlorn, apparently deserted boneyard of Ket. They are, all told, in a rather sorry state, and missing two of their former number.

However, there is nobody else visible in the cemetery. Ket itself, being largely on the opposite side of the bluff upon which the church stands, is almost entirely obscured from sight by the cemetery walls, and the bulk of the adjacent church and its steeple.

It is late afternoon, getting on toward dusk. There might be an hour or so of light left in the early spring day...

What to do next?

Go back to the house and tell the goblin staff to prepare hot baths all round.

The gods know Dieter could use one.

And then we see to Olaf. I mean, I like being the highest level character in the party, but not like this.

Very good.

The bedraggled company haul themselves through the cemetery, out the unwatched and creaky side gate, and all the way down Church street until.

Merchants and artisans as well as clerks and dogsbodies give the armed and armoured company none too few quizzical looks as they tramp across town, grim faced and dusty. But nobody dares say anything, and soon enough they turn left onto Eagle street, which is wider and cleaner, and far less crowded. Here they pass only servant, who give them a wide berth, and the gate guards of some of the wealthier homes who figure it better to say nothing unless spoken to.

It is almost dusk as you at last reach the familiar manse at number eight Eagle Street. It looks strangely small and set back in its grounds compared to the neighboring properties, but it is your safe haven none the less.

The gate is closed and unattended. Dieter reaches through the gate, slips the catch, and has it open in a jiffy. You enter the grounds unchallenged, and start up the garden path.

What next?

Guntrum sighs as they enter the gate. In a low voice, hopefully out of earshot of the servants or the street, he opines "Weary though we be, I worry that these things may go about at night. We have unexplored tunnels with who knows how many entrances in our own walls. From what we saw to the right in the tomb, it seems these things have tunneled or connected a number of cellars and passages. I fear we aren't assume our walls are secure. We may need watches and common sleeping areas."

Such warnings are heeded, and the company approaches their own dwelling with some trepidation.

It is apparent, as they near, that the manse must not be wholly vacant, for there can be seen the yellow light of lamps and candles beyond the curtains that only partially shield the tall ground-floor windows, and also thin curl of smoke issues from the chimney stack on the kitchen wing.

Guntrum, formerly a gamekeeper and caretaker himself, notes (even in the ailing light) that some progress toward tidying the unruly grounds has been made. Most of the loose timber has been cleared, broken up into bundles of kindling, and stacked by the woodshed. And some of the taller weeds around the manse have been cleared...

Meanwhile, Olaf is leaning on Dieter for support by this time, so it is Ulric who steps up onto the great front porch first, withdraws the great iron key to unlock the front doors and push them wide!

A small bell chimes as the doors swing inward, to reveal the bright, warm and inviting lobby!

You have come home, and a home it is indeed.

The servants have patently not been idle, for every surface has been dusted, every piece of timber polished and the floors cleaned.

Bennug the goblin butler waddles into view in his familiar dark suit and white shirt as the company enters, and gives a curt bow.

"Welcome back, Masters," he intones. "I have taken the liberty of lighting the fire in the great hall. Will the Masters be dining in this evening?"

Dorgan looks around, waiting to see what sort of consensus will be reached.

"My dear Bonnig!" exclaims Gustave, sweeping into the entrance hall with appreciating eyes, "you may be diminutive and of ill-hue, but you have worked wonders with our modest hovel". He seems about to embrace the aged goblin when he reconsiders and settles for a friendly slap on the back instead.

"And dining? will we be dining? Why most certainly!" he continues, dragging the butler off to the kitchens, "I think perhaps, some pastries...though of course first, a well roasted shank of meat - perhaps boar? Ah...but one of our men - the lad, Olaf - is unwell, so perhaps just some vegetable soup for him...". His voice trails off as they disappear into the kitchens.

Highbough won't get much sleep with goblins around, so he volunteers for midnight watch.

(edit) "Yes, wine!" he seconds Ulric's suggestion. He keeps his hood up whenever the goblins are nearby.
