(079) What a Gnome Knows

Zax the Gnome Fighter, Brother Herald, and Akbar the Fighter stride over the fallen goblins and march into the room ahead.

It is immediately evident that it is a very deep chamber, running back farther than the eye can clearly see into darkness. There are two torches burning just inside the archway which illuminate a cramped array of dismal bunks, hacked three high into the walls, and running back beyond counting, like so many vertical graves. Fortunately, they appear to be disused right now, but where are all the Goblins that could bunk here?

The floor space between the walls are littered by a shambles of crude furniture, a filthy armchair, a rough bench surrounded by a few stools, a crude wardrobe... but most importantly: a pack of Goblins are scampering off squealing, deeper into the unlit recess of the great hall. They are already 90ft away!

The ref dices to determine how many Goblinkind were originally present: 2d6 → 10, less the 3 that pursued Wetzel, leaves 7.

"Oy! Where d'ya think yar goin'?" yells Zax, and immediately takes off in pursuit, throwing axe in hand, and at full short-legs speed.
Zax leaves sufficient space between his line of pursuit and the goblins ahead if possible, to fire, say, an arbalest. He hopes however, that the long-legs use thier long legs to make good on the pursuit where he cannot

The Herald takes off after the goblins, pausing only to tell Zax not to shoot him in the back.

Re: (079) What a Gnome Knows

Brother Herald quickly overtakes Zax, barging through the litter of furniture in his pursuit of the Goblin pack, his coat of mail shink, shink, shinking with every stride. Akbar and Zax follow. A few hectic minutes pass, rushing past rude furniture, hurdling stuff or knocking it over, rounding bends, passing dark corridores and sputtering torches, ever in pursuit of the quarry.

Before very long the Goblins vanish around a corner ahead. Brother Herald realises he has run a hundred yards of this filthy warren but is not making up any ground, and Akbar and Zax have fallen a ways behind...
Dungeon Exploration Turn 5, Second Move

Tis a pursuit move, whereby movement pace is quadrupled and all caution abanddoned for speed!

Somewhat appropriately after that little dash, the sixth turn should be a rest turn.

Re: (079) What a Gnome Knows

The Herald stops to catch his breath, and to allow Akbar and Zax to rejoin him.

Should we round the corner, or head back and find out what our cowardly companions are about?

"Ehhhhhhhhhhh," Akbar groans with disappointment, and then spits. Then he peeks around the corner.

Zax arrives after some minutes, red of face and steaming slightly. He sucks air like there is none to be had for a moment then turns a steely eye on The Herald.
"Wotcha let 'em go fer?" He wheezes.

As the groups rests, they hear a noise from behind. It is Karl, catching up with them.

"I thought you'd have goblins to kill," he says, lowering his sword and looking around.

The Herald replies, I am a Man and thus not used to running away from battles in such haste. They have outdistanced us for the nonce but I suspect we'll find them curled up in a ball around yonder corner. Shall we proceed or do you need more time to chastise me?

Re: (079) What a Gnome Knows

"Hmmrph," grunts Zax in response, clearly unimpressed by this answer. Thus dismissing The Herald, he goes to see what Akbar sees...
