This could very easily be an alignment-based decision. Lawfuls would want to distribute the spoils lawfully (evenly, if that was the prior agreement/terms of the adventuring company).

Neutrals are more likely to want whatever they personally hauled out: more an every man for himself approach.

Chaotics would want whatever they want, and would bully, intrigue, or even kill to get it.

I vote that for the time being we split up any large treasures, money, gems, etc evenly among the party, but any individual smaller loot should be carried back by whoever wants to carry it.

When we captured thick neck, his bounty got split evenly.

Any swords, rations, helmets, etc that people picked off the corpses have been individually used or disposed of.

Zax does whatever he can to get by until the group plans to leave: chores for The Herald at first, and otherwise any else going. If possible he will furnish himself with a weeks rations before departure, with any spare coin going toward whisky.

He will also attempt to bathe, as surreptitiously as possible, in a local stream, muttering all the while about long-legged, god-hugging, fancy-pants and their toffy ideals...

Freid works for The Herald, earning his pay, but also tries to get in other work as he can to maximize his coinage. At the end of the week he wants to be able to purchase a week's worth of rations and then will compare his funds with whatever is for sale before deciding on what else (if anything) to buy.

The Herald would expect that all treasure would be split evenly, not just "the big stuff". The Herald might also point out that Dopey is making money off the efforts of others who held the line while Dopey did naught but watch.

"Have at him" cheered Dopey, making no effort to assist in the attack. "Huzzah! Give him a proper licking!"

Do bear in mind that there was no prior arrangement or contract stipulating how any loot would be divided, so I think it is kinda natural that we now see these different views arising.

I am interested to see how it will be resolved among the characters, but I don't want to see it become contentious among the players.

That's why I was saying The Herald and not Sully. Don't forget, his full title is The Herald of Man. Hobbits are... not Men.

Sully, on the other hand, has nothing but love for the Red Baron no matter how this plays out.

Thick-Neck is ransomed. Labor is done. Goods and supplies are procured. All in a busy week at the muddy, smelly camp.

The ref uses a reaction check to determine how this proposal is recieved: 2d6 → 7, so uncertain. Leudigar doesn't get any specialised work this turn, but the door is still open to try again later.

Confident in his plate armor, Dopey boldly volunteers to march in the vanguard on the coming expidition.
Dopey might retort that he killed at least one hobgoblin, and was wounded by Thick-Neck in the fray.

When the other characters chose to prolong hostilities against an enemy that had already been beaten, Dopey sincerely wished them well, and even intervened to rescue Leudigar away from certain death.

Meanwhile the Herald walked away from the battle suspiciously unscathed.
