...unknowable time passes in blackness...

Before, some time later...

A company of Men and Elves (and a two-headed Hobbit) marches through the abbey's razed courtyard above, into its broken chapel, then traverses a broad spiral stair that winds its way into the basal through the great 30ft wide hole in the middle of the chapel floor. Once in the basal they light torches and navigate a dog-legged passage, past a known pit trap, past the wolf effigies on the walls, to arrive once more here; in the long, dark hall that houses The Ring!

Wen would wonder aloud "what will we find this time around, I hope what we seek"

Desmond, quite unsure of what is going on about him, is unusually quiet. He nervously rests his hand on the pommel of his sword.

Mondes mumbles something to the effect of, "... better share them damned pa'tries wit me if'n we ever do find 'em."

A maniacal look comes over Highbough's face. His wispy hair whips around his head and his eyes crackle with intensity as he embraces the Void.

Josiane eyes the Ring warily. There is a nervousness flickering in her grey eyes, but a firm, purposeful set to her jaw. She holds Dhren's mirror in one hand at the ready.

"How do we proceed?" she asks those who have travelled this path before...

"Do educate us in the working of this magnificent thing..." utters Ulric absently, but his gaze is locked on the great, rune graven hoop that stands ominously upon the dais at the far end of the hall.

Helmut stays near his charge, a look of some trepedition in his usually unphasable eye. Though not unfamiliar with the occasional miracle, this is something entirely unknown.

"A point of order — might we not inventory our supply of mirrors before hazarding a trip through the Ring? I have here one exceedingly fine platter, which I shall keep stashed at my side in this sack. Helmut, I believe the metal mirror we located earlier today is in your possession. Josiane holds one other. Hopefully I've forgotten who else has a mirror ... ?"

Desmond replies,"I now have the silver bowl again, the fake artifact from the Reliquary. Do you think that might be of use, Wen?"

"I told you all to go find mirrors; why have you brought so few?" lectures a visibly irritated Highbough. "Now you'll be whining, 'please, Highbough, don't leave us, take us with you,' just like your friends." He lets out a deep, weary sigh. "I suppose we can use the shiny silver bowl and platter if we run out of mirrors. The secret is to crowd together into the field of vision, so that all of the travelers are contained within the mirror's reflection. That is why Wen and I were not able to bring the others back: my silver dagger was too narrow. Now we must stand with our backs to the ring and the mirror held out before us, as depicted in the mosiac you see there. I am ready when the rest of you are. Everybody gather around, come closer..."
